8th day - Phoenix to Red Rock & my cousin's house

... by only one large town that had a mall along the freeway. Other then that there were just some sparsely built up area & then desert. Eventually we reached the exit we needed & we made our way to Kat & Dan's house. When we arrived we had to wait for a little while for the dogs to be put away since Jon & missy have allergies & one of Kat's dogs is a bit rambunctious.

Once the dogs got put away, we got a tour of Kat's lovely home. ...

... different kinds of tamales...some from D&J, some from Merrily's larder...and some fudge left over from Dick's b'day. If we get hungry tonight, we'll dine on some smoked garlic sausages I brought from Port Barre, LA.

When next you hear from me, we'll have been back up at a dog show and have hooked up with Lacie, Merrily, and more Park Rapids friends, Sandy & Don Beurkly, in Scottsdale.

... of the coal we find on the ground… that at one time the plant was coal fired… we also assume it had a steam engine that was used to generate steam for some boilers and steam engines to generate electricity, maybe some power for pulleys to power the equipment… And of course coal to heat and melt ...

... it was 150 million. And the cost to maintain it is about 4 million a year and it is not paying for itself. Today the Arizona University in Tucson runs it with all private funding. (That's why it was open).

We toured through the rain forest, the ocean, the swamp, and the desert. Then we went underground to see all the equipment that runs it all. The we went through a 200 foot narrow tunnel to the south lung. Then we returned and viewed the living area of the biosphere.

... Lexus, BMWs on the road in the real world. The kids worked at getting good with finding information we need on the iPad (something I never had on road trips.) They did NOT love Date Shakes from Dateland (something I did have on road trips!)
263 freight train cars
1 date shake split in to 2 cups
414 miles - 6 1/2 hours (only stopped for gas at Dateland...loving the Luggable Loo ...
