... shop in Hayes...stopped at a the Firetender Trading Post in Russell...saw a couple of storm chaser vehicles (didn’t get a picture of the one that looked like a tank)....saw THOUSANDS of wind turbines for a 40 mile stretch east of Hayes...got into the motel in Salina around 6...went to dinner at Hickory Hut BBQ for great ribs...back to the motel to ...
... dinners, no matter where we were; a favorite: sausage links stuffed with bacon and cheese.
Then came the RV itself. Oy vey! the tweaks, peaks, shortages, blowouts, cursing, throwing of things, air conditioning adjustments, propane troubles, cursing, sweating, giving up, getting up, yelling, vacuuming 3 times due to rain and mud, trying to become thinner just for the shower,
mumbling and that knack for cursing which I think I mentioned. But despite our best efforts ...
... hotels. Only problem....it's a dry county.....oh well....we needed to be weaned off the cocktails anyway.
In the am we found a circuit fit walking path along the Arkansas river ...How fun. Enjoyed our time here and would love to come back sometime.
Back on the I 40 to continue westward.... to both the north and south are the Ozark parks. The day is overcast and the hills all look blue in ...
... flat lands like the western half.
Also, did you know that there really is a 'Dorothy's House,' complete with a yellow brick road and all of the characters??? There is! It's in Liberal, Kansas, in the south western corner, just above Oklahoma. (Junctions 83 and 54 if you are interested) We didn't take that route, but you can!
... day adventure-wise so I will take this opportunity to rant a bit about my observations of 'merican drivers gleaned over the past month of driving amongst them. As a group they all share the same faults;
- no clue whatsoever about what the left lane is for, content to amble along at 20 mph under the posted limit
- no clue about moving over to the left lane to allow merging traffic to, well, merge. I have witnessed so many incidences ...
