It was raining when we awoke this morning in Hazard Kentucky at the Hampton Inn so we were pleased to have a rest day to do laundry, repair bikes and just relax a bit before heading into the hills once again. We have 9 days of riding ahead of us and some of the most challenging terrain between Eastern Kentucky and Charlottesville, Virginia. If the weather is good to us we should not have any trouble. On the older roads the grades run up to 17 % while the state highway routes are gentler, but longer as they climb and fall along the topography of Eastern Kentucky.
