... neat.. we stayed at about 60 feet for almost an hour and swam through several caverns. The Visibility was pretty nice, maybe 60-70 feet and we saw several anemones and a real neat lionfish. I partnered up with an old Navy guy (late 60s) your never too old... who had also gone on the boat without a partner. Hes done 160 dives since hes been here and knew a lot about the sites so it made both dives more interesting. The second dive was similiar ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblog... the pearl effort I realized time was ticking and the sun would be going down within the next few hours so I had to start heading back to avoid getting a dark trail. A good part of the hike involved playing the "find the tape game" but it was a lot better marked than most hikes ive done so far. So I made it back in time for sunset and headed back to base with enough time to grab some good Air Force Chow and hit the sack before another fun filled week of flying.

Oceanview, Guam guamblog... the Japanese and later by us Americans when we bombed the heck out of it on our way back.. The spanish also used it as a vantage point. The hike starts out on a very steep cliff, and decends down rocks and boulders and a flight of old spanish steps. There are several ropes on the way down for you to "rappell" down with to keep a good balance. Once down the cliff the scenery overtakes you into a palm tree jungly canopy. Complete with every bug ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblog... your bouyancy) to the right amount and you can just hang out at any spot without falling or rising. Its like being an astornaut! You can just spin around or do flips with ease and no resistance... I guess you have to do it yourself to understand but its really cool. From the four open water dives we saw everything from sea fans to crazy fish to a sea anenome and huge coral cliffs to a rare spotting of a sea turtle and several underground cables. The same harbor that we dove in ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblog... on the ground is still recognizable: the roads are visible and the cars driving on it look like busy ants. In a way, it is more scary then when you have the impression you are jumping in a computer game. But, it gives you less overview over the land and the free fall is shorter. One, two, three: goooooooooooooooooooo. The free fall is amazing. Your cheeks are flapping around like a flag! When the parachute opens, it is ...
Tamuning, Guam tonyandmarina... ear, 1 fork and no kitchen knife. The airco is very loud. Dr T suggests that we ask for another room but I just want to lay down, at 6 in the morning. It smells terrible. Like old cigarettes and mold. We sleep a couple of hours and go for the beach. There is a hotel strip there and we are looking for a walk and a nice terrace. The walk we get but the nice terrace not. The 2 we find on the beach are FULL of screaming Japanese. You can ...
Tamuning, Guam tonyandmarina... I would make no better decision for the rest of the day. Calling it a "plate" was a joke - the food would have been much more comfortable on a platter. The amount of food would have easily fed a Japanese family with leftovers; Peter and I could have shared it with no room left for dessert. Aisha, the waitress, told me the star of the platter was the chicken kelaguen - she said people come from all over the world to sample some and I understood why ...
Tamuning, Guam living2travel... was where most of the swelling and redness was. I didn't really notice it up until that point, it's just not a part of your arm that you can see very easily. When I looked at it in the mirror I could see that I had a raging infection going. Perhaps my time in Guam would have been better spent seeing a doctor-but where's the fun in that? Cipro, don't leave home without it!!
Tamuning, Guam gypsymichelle... and water depths in average of 5,000 meters (approx. 16,000 feet). So why is it important? Because these rocks are mantle rocks that through tectonic forces were raised or placed or exposed in the ocean floor. Mantle rocks are very rare to find on the surface of earth so that is why makes this place of such great importance. In my next posting I will tell yo more about what we do in the boat Stay tuned.
Tuam Bay, Guam wildexplorer... up the next day and drove me around the island. It was quite interesting. It felt like you're in the middle of nowhere and the only thing you can see when you look out is the sea. It was funny to see that they have special buses that go from one mall to another. A lot of Japanese come here to shop! I took it once myself from the biggest K-Mart to the Galleria just because it's near to the hotel I was staying. Overall I had a nice and peaceful time in Guam.
