... A group of reservists from the North Carolina tanker unit followed us on our journey into the abyss. Reaching the mudside cliff and descending it were very strenous and had a very steep slope so getting down to the actual falls was very interesting but a lot of fun. The first falls, Lower Sigua reaches down 70 feet to the pool below. Its about 20 feet deep and maybe 30 wide at the most. But the water felt sooooooo ...
Yigo, Guam guamblogI took the advanced open water SCUBA course this weekend. It consisted of reading a useless book, knocking out some quizzes, and completing 5 specialty dives. The dive we chose were the Night diving, wreck diving, drift diving, navigation, and deep water specialty dives. The navigation and deep werent too much more interesting but the other dives were Really Cool
We went out Friday night to explore Gun Beach, a beach with ...
... and know exactly what I was looking at. But swimming through the deck and passing through the hallways was pretty awesome. We didn't "penetrate the ship" ( entering holes in the ship and exploring) b/c you can kick up 70 year old silt really quickly and the visibility is close to impossible to deal with. The class they were teaching does "penetration dives but that's beyond my level for sure! Maybe in the future haha Ill work towards ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblog... negative view towards military guys b/c of how they treat girls in the clubs here and how they act while downtown. I guess there has been a lot of disrespect and fights downtown... So in general they think a lot of us are just @$$h*le$. Go figure... And it doesnt help that UFC and cage fighting are HUGE down here and half the guys we were with were obsessed with it. Found that out after some friendly nonsober wrestling that lasted about 10 seconds ...
Merizo, Guam guamblog... on the ground is still recognizable: the roads are visible and the cars driving on it look like busy ants. In a way, it is more scary then when you have the impression you are jumping in a computer game. But, it gives you less overview over the land and the free fall is shorter. One, two, three: goooooooooooooooooooo. The free fall is amazing. Your cheeks are flapping around like a flag! When the parachute opens, it is ...
Tamuning, Guam tonyandmarina... ear, 1 fork and no kitchen knife. The airco is very loud. Dr T suggests that we ask for another room but I just want to lay down, at 6 in the morning. It smells terrible. Like old cigarettes and mold. We sleep a couple of hours and go for the beach. There is a hotel strip there and we are looking for a walk and a nice terrace. The walk we get but the nice terrace not. The 2 we find on the beach are FULL of screaming Japanese. You can ...
Tamuning, Guam tonyandmarina... I would make no better decision for the rest of the day. Calling it a "plate" was a joke - the food would have been much more comfortable on a platter. The amount of food would have easily fed a Japanese family with leftovers; Peter and I could have shared it with no room left for dessert. Aisha, the waitress, told me the star of the platter was the chicken kelaguen - she said people come from all over the world to sample some and I understood why ...
Tamuning, Guam living2travel... was where most of the swelling and redness was. I didn't really notice it up until that point, it's just not a part of your arm that you can see very easily. When I looked at it in the mirror I could see that I had a raging infection going. Perhaps my time in Guam would have been better spent seeing a doctor-but where's the fun in that? Cipro, don't leave home without it!!
Tamuning, Guam gypsymichelle... The cannon of Fort Agueda served to protect Agana harbor and the lucrative Galleon trade until the Spanish American War when in 1898 when an American frigate entered Agana harbor with guns blazing. Agana was surrendered the next day. Cannon still point out over Agana Bay and Agana from the remnants of Fort Santo Agueda in Agana ...
Agana, Guam joelle... up early, expected to work all day, but realized by noon that most people were off the ship (except for supply! we were there, just in case some kid wanted a toothbrush or a candy bar or a haircut!). When I noticed no one else was around, I decided to go to sleep, and slept right through Thanksgiving meals on the ship... I woke up around 6pm, got into civilian clothes, and went to the pier, where Subway and a Pizza Hut stand were set up, as long as a beer stand (most ...
