Today we went to The Forbidden City with Ayman and the Bertram family. The Forbidden City was the palace of the Chinese emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is located in the heart of Beijing and is the largest ancient palace in the world. Today it is the Palace Museum and houses thousands of artifacts and pieces of art from Ancient …

Or how to see as much of Beijing as possible in <4 days.
Having looked at the map & realised quite how big China is & how much we wanted to cover within our 30 day visa, we decided to whiz round Beijing as quickly as possible in order to be able to fit more in. After all, there's only so many temples you can visit & still feign …

Beijing (Part Deux)

Bags packed-this time they only weighed 21.5 kg together-a new record for us. Unfortunately, for the sake of the record we didn't pack any underwear. You never achieve anything spectacular without commitment or dirty pants. Please don't stop reading out of disgust, we did pack underwear, we just didn't bring our toothbrushes. Okay okay, we packe...

Well Folks, First time at this so hopefully it will work out ok. Basically this is what happened on our trip so far! Arrived last Friday expecting to be picked up in the airport. No sign of any chinaman with my name written on a piece of paper as promised by our hotel in the arrivals hall. Had a bit of a panic and then got a taxi ourselves to th...

Really good hotel for the price (we booked through expedia). Very helpful hotel staff, excellent English. Michelle on the ticket booking desk was especially helpful. Would stay here again.

The staff is rudeee!! They have little concept of customer service. You just come plane journey and a long bus ride you wanna be greeted with some respect and a smile. Now they did smile and laugh but AT US. Now what was funny we didn't know, but clearly they were having a chuckle on our expense for some reason. Now I think it could have been due to the fact I didn't understand her accent when she was asking for my passport. After the 4th time and saying it in a MOCKING childish voice I understood. She was talking to me, an English teacher, like I was 5, I felt like getting her head and banging it against the glass table!! They were sooo rudeee!! Not a good start AT ALL!!!

The hotel in general is in a good location, 2 min walk from T square, local food vendors and Malls. The facilities in the hotel were good too as was the room in general, however, it did have a weird kind of smell through it. I would recommend this hotel if you want it for the location but if you're anything like me and like good customer service then NO!!

Service was great , restaurant was a bonus and the bed was reasonably comfortable. I would highly recommend this accomodation due to its 2 min walk location to Tian emen Square and the Palace. Really great bus transport available at the end of the road.
