... to smile; “It is’nt Chen at all: I had once a son-in-law whose surname was Chen, but he has left home, it is now already a year or two back. Is it perchance about him that you are inquiring?”<br> To which the public servants remarked: “We know nothing about Chen or Chia (true or false); but as he is your son-in ...
Beijing, Beijing, China savenergys... Coming a close second to Tao Tao is Daniel's second favourite Tao, Tsing Tao, his favourite brand of Chinese beer, of which we consumed vast quantities during my ten days in Beijing. Let me simply say that I can see why he's decided to make China his home. The food is fantastic and fun, the beer is cheap and plentiful, his wife is adorable and keeps him firmly on his toes and best of all...he doesn't seem to do any work whatsoever! And I thought I had it good!
Beijing, China vague-abondingToday we woke up early and packed. We went down to breakfast before we could pack the rest of the things like toiletries. Some of us went down to the local market to buy our last few things, and to pass the time, but soon we were in the foyer with all our suitcases. Shirley, our guide from the Great Wall hike met us there with the bus and we piled on all our suitcases and ourselves. The drive to the airport was about an ...
Beijing, China amyfisher... the stage where all the temples and palaces are starting to look the same. After about 2 and a half hours of walking about we had only covered like 1/4 of the place but we had the headback to the hotel. We met our tour group at 6 and went to local restuarant to talk/organise/eat. Our tour guide is called Jenny and she speaks fluent chinglish, i dont really think many people can understand her fully... she seems nice though. There are 12 of us all ...
Beijing, China bayleighkeirne... some scalped tickets when he was here, but to tell you the truth I was so outrageously tired that day that I can't remember anything about it. But I do remember Scalper Land after he left. Madness!!! Tons of people were trying for scalped tickets at the end of the Olympics. By this point everyone realized that it didn't matter what event you were seeing, even if it was something you've never heard of it's still going to be awesome and the ...
Beijing, China taralyra... a manager of the Olympic-designated St Regis Beijing hotel, said he received the notice last week. "We will make sure no dog meat is served during the Games," he said, adding that it had never been on the menu. Traditional Chinese medicine regards dog meat as highly nutritious, but the consumption of canines has always been a controversial topic. During the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, the South Korean government asked its citizens not to eat dog meat during the ...
Beijing, China happysheep... moves! He hi-fived them so much he had bruises on his hands. It was a great laugh. April 5th: We headed to the Forbidden City. It is only a 5 min walk from the hostel. It is so so so big. We had a wander around the Palaces but I dont think we could really appreciate it as we were both pretty tired and hungover from the night before. After about 2 hrs of walking around, it was time to eat. We hit the same ...
Beijing, China mossradden... it is. Sadly, we time our visit badly and are not treated to a demonstration of the drums being used for announcing the time to the local population. We descend the stairs, cross the yard (observing unoccupied rickshaw drivers engaged in a game of badminton to pass the time) and stare at a second steep flight of steps standing between us and the upper levels of the Bell Tower. The main attraction here is the large bell hung in the ...
Beijing, China weirdism... 10....In the evening we went out to the Em porers Summer Palace to enjoy a ride on the Dragon Boats. Like I said...tourists, but we are having so much fun. Tuesday - We have another early start to the Temple of Heaven. I think our group has had enough temples and palaces for the day. Next we go for ricksaw (bicycle) rides through the ancient hutongs. We forgo the Lama Temple and head out to buy souvenirs. Kyle and I both we ...
