Geraldine invited us in for breakfast in the morning, so we were up at 6:00 am to get ready. A quick (and delicious) breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon, and Geraldine was off taking her kids to school ...
Well, today's travel was quite a bit more interesting than I had anticipated. For the first hundred miles the wind was hellacious; 30-40 MPH side winds with higher gusts. That went on for almost two hours, the longest two hours of the trip so far. I was so tense that I took an hour and a half lunch break while the wind died down.
I thought about calling it a day and getting a hotel room right after lunch, but ...
... In the fifty or so miles in which I observed them, I easily saw a thousand or more. Interspersed between them all were quite a few oil wells as well. At one point I chuckled with the thought "Texas should be rename the Energy State".
I'm hoping to make it to Alamogordo, NM, tomorrow or Tuesday with a visit to the White Sands National Monument.
The winds were bad today and we decided to just stop in Big Spring TX at a Wal-Mart for the evening. We were the only rig in the lot. They did have an area out of the way which was just fine for the evening.
The following photo was taken in Fredericksburg. If you come to Texas be very careful what you say about politics. These folks have strong opinions and loaded guns!
