... I expected them to be far better at. After a hearty meal, we headed down CA-1 along 90 miles of wilderness along a coast known as the Big Sur. Towns are non-existent. The road twists and turns along the edge of 500-900 foot tall cliffs, overlooking rocks and kelp forests in the crashing sea below. The hills are a golden color, but are accented by red and orange and yellow wildflowers and sea plants. Monterey cypress trees are the most noticeable vegetation, ...

      ... like it's from the 70s.

The Main Street in Barstow is part of historic Route 66 so we cruise down and pick our home for the night - Stardust Inn. We got the room for a cheap and cheerful price of $45. We drop our stuff and head to Denny's for dinner. We get a talapia with mash and veggies and a chicken noodle soup to share. After dinner we stop by the local grocery store to stock up on necessities and get back to Stardust to chill.

It is one of the famous restored Harvey Houses, which was a huge fancy hotel in the early 1900's. Harvey was famous for his Harvey Girls. They could serve dinner to 96 men in 25 minutes. ...

... poor excuse for personal hygiene, WRONG. The nomad proceeded to stand up shoving us in the middle and window seats and completely imprisoning us in his stinky bubble! Daaaaamn son! How the hell we're we gonna deal with this **** for 10 hours? In the typically British way of course, we smiled polity, didn't complain and when it all got to much I sprayed copious amounts of Armani aftershave on a tissue and held it over my nose and mouth. Not overly subtle but ...
