Historical Traveler Reviews of Days Hotel - Sunny Isles Beach Miami
Not impressed
from A TripAdvisor Member
I wrote a review in June saying that I was looking forward to going back after a disasterous hotel before. WELL I WAS WRONG!! We were given a room with 1 bed for me and my 17 year old son. Not the hotels fault, but Virgins. We were moved to a very grotty room for the night, and the next day, after speaking to the moody, unhelpful Virgin rep (the english one) we were moved to pool view. It was tatty, and not impressive. Labeled as 3*....HOW???? I would think 2* was kind. In two years the hotel has become run down and dirty looking. Broken thermostat meant a very noisy room, and wires hanging out of the wall. Even the food was unimpressive. The shopping is fab, and the location good, but that's it. Look at other hotels before booking this one.
The only good thing is the beach-location.

Stayed here from December 17th till December 19th, 2004.
Maybe this is all you can get for $ 59.00 (+ tax + $ 8.00 valet-parking + $ 6.00 resortfee) per night in Miami, but it is a horrible motel. I was really disappointed, mainly because it's suppossed to be a BW, which stands for (reasonable) value in Europe.
The worst part is the (old fashioned) centrally regulated airconditioning: you can't even turn it off! It makes about as much noise as a jet-engine and you'll have to use earplugs if you want to get some sleep. We stayed during 2 cooler days and the room was freezing. The only thing that could be done was shutting down the vents in the room-unit, but this didn't shut down the noise. Combined with (thin) connecting doors in all rooms (our neighbours were 4 loud, rowdy russians) and lots of noise (slamming doors etc.) from the (interior) corridor, you'll really have to be very, very deaf to enjoy this place.
Our room (2 DBL) was very small, they offer (for a fee) larger and efficiency rooms.
Basic breakfast (very small juice, coffee/tea and 1 bagel OR muffin OR cereal) was included in the rate, but at check-in the receptionist forgot the vouchers so I had to go back to get them. BF is served in a small diner-style restaurant with staff that seems constantly in a hurry (to get you out of there?).
Beach-location is great and the pool is ok. 2 chairs (w. towels) and a room-safe are included in the resort-fee, but there is no refund if you don't use them. Rooms do have a little patio (or balcony) with 2 chairs.
Located on north Collins Ave (A1A), it's very close to the Aventura Mall and there is a Publix across the street. If you decide to stay here, I'll recommend valet-parking which is only an additional $ 2.00 to the regular P-fee of $ 6.00.
Few low-rise buildings remain in Sunny Isles and it looks like they will be replaced by high-rise condo's in the near future, so beware of building-sites!
You get what you pay for

We also booked our package through virgin holidays and benefited from a room upgrade to a superior room. The hotel is quite dated and in need of a major overhaul. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and give good value fo money. For our trip we only paid approx £500 per person for 14 nights including flights. The location is convenient too, literally on the beach, bus stop out side to south beach ($1.50) and north to the fantastic Aventura shopping mall. For all you fast food 'junkies', burger king, kfc, and mcdonalds are all opposite, and try 'Tony Romas' just down the road for great ribs!!! If you are budget concious and want a basic hotel in a fab location, look no further. You may benefit from a few days car hire as you are a bit far from south beach, which is approx an hour on the bus. Would definitely go back, value for money, and as the title says, you get what you pay for!!!!!
Check Your Room Upon Arrival

We had booked this hotel for two weeks through Virgin Holidays. The room was terrible, toilet blocked and overflowing, tv, bedside light and in room safe did not work, ironing board broken. As we did not check our room immediately they refused to move us and we had to spend the first 15 hours of our holiday in there.
Staff are surly like the rest of the Hispanic population. The good points were the Concierge (Lionel), the restaurant for breakfast and ...... oh dear I cannot think of anything.
Great place to stay!

We stayed for a week at the thunderbird and had an amazing time! It's location is perfect, right between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. We had a rental car so we were able to travel to the malls and to South Beach, but forthose without a car, the hotel provided transportation to those locations. Our room was bigger and a lot nicer than many I have stayed at and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and enjoyed the food. But for snacks, we went to the grocery store across the street and bought food to keep in the refridgerator located in our hotel room (SOOOOO useful!). There is also a beauty salon, a few bars, and a clubby type bar where they had live bands on the weekend.
We had only one problem when our safe jammed, but the front desk sent someone right away and it was fixed within a half an hour. I liked the way the safes were, you just type in a code that you make up yourself, therefore there is no need to carry a key around or anything.
The pool was big and the hot tub was nice (heater broke for a day). the beach was incredible! it was plowed early each morning to keep the sand looking fresh. two of the days we had huge waves and bought a boogie board to surf the waves! it was awesome. they had staff who would bring you to your lounge chairs and give you towels, they were very nice people.
We had a wonderful time and would definitely come back!

Well. Normally when I read these reviews from people who complain about room in hotels I think "Get a life" . However...even I thought the THUNDERBIRD in Miami was rough. I remember being greeted on my first night by a ground floor room with a door that looked like it had had several attempts to be broken into..NOT a comforting sight. Whole place was pretty run down for the price they charged. Thats all I can say really...old and dirty!
Dreadful!

We booked one night at this hotel through Virgin Holidays and believe me one night was enough. We paid for an upgrade and this was rough, so I hate to think what the basic rooms are like. The whole resort is rundown and could do with a total overhaul. How Virgin rate this as 3* is beyond me. The guy who seems to run the bar was rude beyond call when my husband lit a cigar up in the bar area. We did not see the No Smoking signs and did not realise a state law had been passed banning smoking in any food/bar area! A polite request to extinguish the cigar would have sufficed without the snide comments.
Never again.
Great

2 Years ago I was booked into another Hotel, which was a disaster. I was moved to the Thunderbird, and thought it was great. the staff were very helpful, the room was lovely, and the food was great. Even better was the shopping. I am going back there this Decmebre, and am looking forward to it!
Pretty good

For the price, it was right. We had noisey nieghbours, but when we reported it to the front desk they delt with it right away. The breakfest is FREE...And GREAT! The pool can use some work but the location was good! Right near the Aventura Mall! My family and I enjoyed our stay here and are returning. We hope that it will be just as good, if not better!
DON'T DO IT!!

We were booked into this hotel through Virgin holidays for 2 weeks over Christmas 2000.When we arrived we thought the place looked really dated and tired but the real shock was the state of the room.(actually a superior room which we had paid a considerable supplement for). They were in the middle of redecoration but no amount of new paint could disguise the run down room, dirty scuffed carpets and furnishings, cracked and ancient bathroom fittings. Our coverlet was soiled and the air conditioning was so incredibly noisy it kept us awake at night. We refused to stay there after the first night and moved to the Sheraton Yankee Trader at Fort Lauderdale the next morning,a palace in comparisson!
