Hooray! They've got spicy... cow intestines??

So I'm in Bejing on business for the first time, staying in the nicest Days Inn I've ever been in(4 stars), and what do I notice first... Where's the sky? It disappeared behind a smothering layer of smog. Also, no wonder the company doesn't allow us to drive in China, I don't think they have any rules except he who gets there first, wins. I do love the food here though. Just don't tell me what it is until I'm finished. I don't want to ruin the taste knowing that it's something I'd have a hard...

My right leg goes off the machine, onto the side bar (or what have you). My left foot is still grazing for support along the running belt, which I have <foolishly> set to one of the faster paces. I slip, and I sway, and the adrenaline kicks in. It takes a bit of getting used to; however, our rule of thumb has been to divide the price of an item by 7 to get a rough estimate of what we are spending in US dollars.

So, we load up the van and head into the city of Beijing. First day in Beijing -Temple of Heaven

... hours in hotel and than we went to visit the Temple of Heaven. Confused for the jet lag and without forget our map of the city, we went to the subway. Fortunately all the signs and information are written also in English. Once out of the subway, my son becomes an uncontrollable hunger and without asking, entered in a pizzeria, forcing us to follow him. He ordered "spaghetti alla carbonara"?! My son can eat spaghetti ...

... for their 1 hour wall walk. they were starting at us like we were aliens. it was quite funny. several of them took their cameras out to take pictures of us climbing up from the 'wreckage'. we were quite angry to see 'our wall' taken over by so many people. I think the best part of the wall was being able to take a tobaggon ride down from it! there are wheeled carts on a stainless steel race track that you ride down from the wall. it was awesome, and probably ...

New years eve- a great wall experience

... There is nothing quite like going to a foreign country to hang out with foreigners, to be fair it does make you appreciate other people being able to speak your language. There was some kind of drunken quiz and drinking game going on but I ended up on a table chilling with a Japanese dude, a Korean girl, a German girl, a Chinese German guy and three Dutch people. It was a good night, it ended with some cool people and a whole new year, who could ask for more?

The packer held the tube open as I poured first one liquid then the next into the tube then she shook it up and poured it into the cardboard. It foamed up and surrounded the packet locking it firmly in some type of Styrofoam. I later saw this was the same method they packed terracotta warrior items in Xi'an Then it was off to the Summer ...

... heckling the mothers and fathers for money. But then at the same time, I feel terrible ignoring them. This is, after all, how they make their living. Really, though, a chill pill would help. At least to us Americans, being screamed at isn't going to tempt us to buy things. And it just cracks me up how each of the ladies sells the same thing at her table as the women on either side of her. And yet, when you say no to one and walk to another with the same things you said ...
