... without any further drama. And only a few light flashes and claps of thunder. Our biggest excitement of the day was a trip to the local laundromat to resupply our ward robe selection. We finally lifted the threat of "double duty" with the clothes and underwear. The steady rain and threat of local flash floods, kept us from exploring the countryside. The fact that is is Sunday, meant that most everything was closed anyway. The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame was open on Sunday - so ...

... in the middle of their 19th annual rhythm and blues festival. We quickly made our way down to the Cane River Lake where the festival was blaring. A few minutes and a short walk away, we were listening to their hometown singer who recently departed "The Voice", TV show. DeShawn Washington was followed later in the evening by The Marshall Tucker Band. In between, we sampled Natchitoches specialties such as meat pies, opalousas, gumbo and bananas foster. The weather today was great. Cool when we started out but nice sunshine and the local temp was up to 66F by mid-day. Our first stop was the Oakland Plantation which has 17 of the original buildings remaining. It is a National Historic Park and is one of only two such farms west of the Mississippi. There was a free tour of the main house and self-guided tour of the balance of the property. Next stop was the Melrose Plantation. Only a few ...

Took a taxi to the airport. Check-in with Avis went easily. We had requested an economy vehicle but they didn't have any so got a free upgrade to a 2013 Ford Escape. You need to take a course on the controls. Like a spaceship. Fully equipped including Sirius satellite radio. We have been through one tank of gas and the economy is pretty good considering we have been running at ...

... Desert Museum. We visited Tombstone, we camped in Las Cruces and we spent the night in a horrible hotel because we got a bit late (30 dollars a night per room - that says it all).

And now we are in Louisiana enjoying the local accent and colors! Tomorrow we'll head to Natchez and then up to Vicksburg where we'll stay for a few days. So more later....
