After breakfast and bike riding around the campground loop, we drove into Hannibal, the town where Samuel Langhorn Clemens (Mark Twain) spent his childhood years. We ate at the Mark Twain diner (where the kids enjoyed homemade root beer!), then walked up 244 stairs to see a lighthouse perched on the side of a hill. It was a lovely climb and offered views of the Mississippi River (it really is MUDDY!!) and Hannibal.

The naturalist was planning to give all the kids marshmallows after his spiel, but in the dark, we watched a medium-sized creature hobble across the road, grab the marshmallow bag, and run! The kids and Rees woke up at a decent hour (sometime between 9 and 10am), but I was EXHASUTED and slept & slept. (Can I tell you how comfortable the Serta pillow-top mattress in the motorhome is??) We awoke to a beautiful view of Rend Lake. The topography is very flat with lots of trees. The kids journaled while I slept like Sleeping Beauty.
