... Berlin. It was a very uneventful trip apart from when we were stopped for an hour because of a suspected bomb at the next station! Leipzig is a fabulous city, spacious and elegant, and again we have seen no sign of half expected drabness. It started pouring with rain at 5pm with strong gusty winds so it looked like we were in for another yukky day. We stayed in bed until 6:30 hoping the rain would ease, then packed up 3 of the panniers in the tent and had breakfast. By this time the rain had reduced to light sprinkles so we moved the last pannier and the rack pack that had all the daily stuff to a nearby shelter that had a table and made our flask of hot water ready ...

... sup>th century as a small Romanesque church, and the initial church became the St. Thomas Monastery of the Augustinian order around 1212. It was reconstructed several times in a Gothic style by 1496, and now has one of the steepest roofs in Germany with a roof pitch of 63 degrees. In 1539, Martin Luther preached there on Pentecost Sunday, which is the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the 12 Apostles, and which occurs 50 days after Easter. By this ...
