    Trains from 9am-5pm to get to the other side of Germany. Loooong trip via Frankfurt and Cologne, but it was very interesting to see the countryside. It was Beautiful through the Rhine Valley.     ... has suggested we visit enroute. Bamberg is one of them and is supposed to be one of the most attractive towns in Germany..we'll see!

    Today we travelled through a lot of rural Germany. The question we kept asking was 'where are all the people?' Even around the hotel in this residential area, nobody was outside, no people walking along the pavements..really strange..as if The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had happened!

    ... as would be most common at home. So the numerous flags that one saw during this victory celebration, as well as during the preceding several weeks, will likely drastically diminish in the next several days. Today also marks the midway point of my adventure in Deutschland.

    ... tram to the Family History Center to investigate a bit of genealogy only to find that the entire building was closed, even though the posting on the internet indicates it is open on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. I did note that they have an open house on Saturdays, so I may return then to inquire about their actual hours. I returned to the apartment and took a nap.

    ... commemorate the 100th anniversary of Napoleon's defeat in Leipzig at the Battle of Nations. This was the largest battle in Europe before World War I as it involved over 600,000 troops in a bloody 3 day scirmish with casualties estimated at between 80,000 and 110,000. It is called the Battle of Nations because it involved armies from Prussia, Austria, Russia and Sweden fighting against the French army.
