... is the first place I've seen gas at over $5 a gallon. I crossed over the interstate and embarked on the 70 mile stretch through the heart of the Mojave Desert where the towns of Essex, Danby, Chambless, Amboy and Bagdad have either disappeared or almost disappeared. The road rises constantly to Cadiz Summit which has also lost its cafe and gift shop and the remaining buildings are covered in graffiti. ... Haveing reached the Fresno Int. Airport we pulled up on the rental car return to change vehicle. A nice man helped us and asked us to pull into the parking lot to give us a replacement. After looking for a little while he pulled out a big Beuick in the other end of the parking lot. With speed and accurecy he backed it all the way up to us, doing a s-turn halfway there to pull up curbside to us. Sweeet!! It was a bigger, spacier and more luxarious car with six seats ...
