Historical Traveler Reviews Davanzati Florence

Fantastic 3 star hotel

from BritneySpears

We really loved the Davanzati. It was an excellent 3 star hotel, more like a 4 star - great location close to everything and at the same time quiet, simple clean spacious recently renovated rooms, adequate breakfast and most of all the nicest hosts ever ! Couldn't recommend it more highly for the price range and star classification and we have travelled extensively and are very fussy (often opting for 5 star instead of risking it!)

Magnificent hotel in Florence!!!!!!!

from anonymous

Like the previous viewers wrote, do yourself a favor and stay at the Davanzati. It is right in the heart of everything you'd want to see, AND it is a damned fine hotel. My wife and I are on our honeymoon, and our less-than-knowledgeable travel agent set us up in the WORST hotel in Florence, the Cellai, out by the train station. After we endured one night in that mold frappe, we went on tripadvisor and found great reviews of the Davanzati. The staff here is not some disinterested fools just trying to make rent in Florence, but the owners themselves. They made every effort to make our stay the best. Fabrizio and Patrizia are the most genuine people you could meet, and they will make every effort to make you feel at home.

The rooms are good size, the bathrooms are SPARKLING clean, and the air conditioners flawless. Not too mention, the room we stayed in (207) is dead quiet and DARK in the wee hours. What more could you ask for? Steps from the Uffizi, the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo, and a great place to crash!

Excellent Davanzati!

from anonymous

We stayed at the Davanzati Hotel in Aug 2004. The hotel should be a 4 star, not 3 star! The family who runs the hotel are friendly and helpful. Just on check-in, they booked our reservations for the Uffizi Gallery for the very next day, which is very kind and efficient of them! The rooms are clean and breakfast is good. It was very handy that we had free internet access in the hotel. The only drawback was that our room was at the back and a restaurant below was quite noisy at night time. But you are within walking distance of all the main tourist areas! We definatley go back to the Hotel Davanzati!

Great place to stay!

from anonymous

I decided to stay at Davanzati Hotel for four nights in mid-August 2004 with my 10 year old son, based on the great reviews on this site. Everything was just as great as everyone else has said. We really had an excellent time there, even my son quickly accepted it as his home. It is in a convenient but quiet location, the rooms are spotlessly clean, the staff very helpful and considerate, and the price is right, all of which I think is not so easy to find in such a major tourist destination like Florence. All the credit goes to the charming family who runs the place. I sincerely hope they will keep it this way. I won't look for anywhere else to stay if I have the chance to visit Florence again.

Hotel Davanzati is FANTASTIC!!!

from anonymous

I just returned from a 10 day stay in Italy (Florence, Siena, and Rome). While in Florence, we stayed in the Hotel Davanzati. This hotel is rated 3 star but it should be a 4 star. The location is wonderful; in the center of everything but on a quiet side street without much noise. There is a steep set of steps to get to the lobby but it really isn't that bad; also, they informed me that they are planning on putting in an elevator soon to the ground. It is a family owned establishment and everyone working there is extremely helpful and friendly. The room was fantastic. Quite large compared to the other places we stayed in Italy with an exceptionally large bathroom with a bath even!!! The breakfast was not fantastic but it was fresh and tasty. Also, they suggested by email before our trip that they could make us reservations for all the top museums so that we wouldn't have to wait in line. A very nice gesture that was quite helpful. I have no reservations recommending this hotel to anyone staying in Florence and would definitely stay there again should I return to Florence in the future. Thank you Tomasso for making our stay so pleasant!!!

Loved Hotel Davanzati

from Maria12

This is the only hotel we are going to use whenever my husband and I go to Florence, I loved it!!

Excellent location, excellent services, very clean rooms, very good breakfast and the nicest hosts I've ever met in any other hotel, especially Sophia and Tomasso.

I got very lucky, my husband and I had originally booked another hotel a block away from hotel Davanzati but we cancelled it the minute we saw it. With our bags in our backs we started walking and entered this hotel and met a very sweet lady (Sophia) in the front desk. We got very lucky this hotel was so great and that they had a room available in our price range!. Excellent Hotel!!

You'll probably think I am a relative of Fabrizzio's...

I was so pleased to put Hotel Davazanti in the search mode on Trip Advisor and find that there were three positive reviews already there. I concur with all the other words of praise for this hotel, particularly the warmth of the hosts. This was our favorite stay in Italy because we were immediately made to feel like this was our home. Our room even came with the use of a bike with a seat on the back (for me). My favorite moment during our stay was when Fabrizzio saw us taking out the bike to head to dinner and we heard his cheer of "BRAVO" with arms lifted in delight out the window as we peddled away. This will quickly become a favorite in the Trip Advisor "Favorite Hotels" once the word gets out. A shame for the rest of us who found it first and will have a difficult time getting reservations. We heard that Rick Steve's of guidebook fame had inquired already.

Memorable experience

from anonymous

Superb hotel, reasonable prices, spotless rooms, modern amenities, gracious hosts, unreservedly recommend. Ideal central location for shopping, sightseeing, and dining. My wife and I stayed at the Davanzati Hotel in May 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Try it and you will too. Blaine Richardson, Florida USA

Best hotel in Florence Clean and Excellent service

from Mforder

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Davanzati on our 20th anniversary trip through Italy. We were only at the hotel for a brief time and found the hotel to be one of the best we have ever stayed at.

We arrived at the hotel in the morning after a 2.5 our long train trip and did not have a chance to have breakfast. Without any hesitation the owner of the hotel, Fabrizzio offered us expresso and breakfast which was totally unexpected since we were just arriving and checking in early. This hotel made you feel right at home.

The service and attention led you to believe you were at a plus four star hotel. By far we could not have chosen a better hotel. The location was within walking distance of the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio bridge and the major squares. The hotel and rooms were spotless. The European breakfast was excellent and you couldn't ask for more.

As a matter of fact we were on our way to Rome and we were talking with two ladies from Switzerland and suggested this hotel to them. They plan on staying here on their next trip to Florence.

One note we would suggest that you book your stay directly through the hotel www.hoteldavanzati.it this way you won't have to pay a commission to a travel agent.

Thank you again Hotel Davanzati for making our stay in Florence memorable.

Sincerely,

Mark & Gina Forder

Highly recommended

from anonymous

We cannot recommend this place highly enough. We stumbled upon it in early November 2003. Newly opened, just renovated, and run by a 3-generation family. They were very warm and friendly, and went out of their way to be helpful, including obtaining maps, recommending restaurants and offering to get us museum passes. The room was spotless (we suspect that we were one of the first guests) and spacious. The location was fantastic, within walking distance to all the major sites, including the Uffizi, the Duomo, San Lorenzo Market, the train and bus stations, and right in the heart of the shopping district. We extended our stay in Florence, not because of what the city had to offer, but because of the warm hospitality we received.

Today we have a walking tour of Florence booked for 8.30am. The main reason for me booking this tour was so we could bypass the general public queue to see Michelangelo's David. Clever me!

We woke to see a very wet and rainy day in beautiful Florence, not a great day to do a walking tour. We had packed our spray jackets, so it shouldn&# …

Meeting up with Sue and Steve

A travel blog entry by tara6310

We took a cab to the Hotel, dragged ourselves up 26 steps and squeezed into a tiny little elevator. We only had one suitcase since Pete's was still MIA. The elevator doors opened and there was Steve and Sue- let the vacation begin!
