Warrior watch

... with directions which we managed with some good old pointing and head shaking. When the show started we spotted some locals taking up a viewing position right in the middle of the fountains on a narrow walkway. Trusting that we wouldn't get too wet we made the decision to join them as the view from there would be worth a little spray. The show turned out to be lots better than either of us expected and we got some great photos with the aid of Cesca's new tripod.

Second school Xi'an

... at Western Kentucky University. What a wonderful man!!! He worked with the kids and you could see a mutual admiration among them. We didn't stay for a long time as they (and we) have a lot of work to do.

When we returned to the hotel, Ryan, Jil, and I discussed our exchange project for BCPS. We ironed out a lot of details and I think we have decided to choose a school in Chengdu ...

Last Day in Xian

... Judi and I met the English department. We also watched some video from the school and froze! Nobody warned us that the buildings have no heat! I'm fairly certain that the inside is colder than outside. In the afternoon we saw the pandas at one of the few breeding centers in the world. We were very lucky to see some playing since their main activities are eating and sleeping. Then last night we had a welcome ...

The Banpo Prehistoric Museum Adventure

... Yep, you can call me stoopid and on many occasions such as these you'd be right! The journey to my destination cost only 1 Yuan on the public bus and it took around forty minutes. If you decide to check out Banpo and you are wondering where to get off the bus then simply wait for forty minutes and then begin to look out the window for a new (or the only) highway overpass. The bus will then turn ...

Let's Eat!

The biggest thing that caused anxiety for members of my group before leaving the US was the food situation. Would we get enough to eat? Would be be forced to eat dog, chicken feet, or other Chinese delicacies? What if we couldn't use chopsticks? Would it make us sick? Luckily for me at least, my iron stomach has tolerated the many new foods, and overall I have really enjoyed trying new things. My semi-vegetarian lifestyle has had to go for ...

it's too hot.

It is 900 degrees outside, and I am sitting in our sweltering apartment. I went for a 6 mile run this morning, which felt good, however I did it way too late in the day. I started running at 9 am, but it must have been 90 degrees F or even hotter. I think the next outdoor long run (#>3 miles) will have to be done around 7 am. The while time I was out ...

Terracotta soldiers and Xi'an

... after we left, the government release a smog alert and asked for people in the city to stay in side for the day. When we arrived in Xi'an we could really see the level of pollution and smog. China is run mostly on coal and the smoke and clouds create an opaque cover for the entire day. Today is the 5th consecutive day of complete smog, even in Shanghai it is a real problem. We finally say blue sky today and some rays of sun. It makes ...

Terracotta Warriers

... is about the just go. At the station caught another bus to the terracotta army - same rules apply - at various places the woman conductress would stop the bus and then select who at the stop could get on. At one stage she came to the back of the bus and shouted at a young boy and girl it seemed that she told them to get off the bus. They were very upset - but when the bus stopped they got off - walked along by the side of ...

Xian - Terracota Warriors

... had recovered sufficiently enough so we could go. We now are attributing our illness to the spag bowl. However Bob left her kit in England. We caught the 603 bus to Xi'an railway station and proceeded to search for the 'Green' Terracotta Warriors bus. Which later became known as the bus driven by 'ARSEHOLES'. More on that in a mo. First weeble (in his infinite wisdom) decided to search for the bus. After walking round like ...

6.-10. 8. 2007 - Peking, Chengde, Pingyao, Xian
