We have just come back from a lovely trip up to Lake Konigssee, and a boat trip down the lake to St Bartholoma. The lake is nestled between the mountains, and is 602m above sea level with an average depth of 150m. It is the cleanest lake in Germany, with the water being pure enough to be classified ...

... of Salzburg . Truth be told it's a great idea if someone checks the opening times of such places. We got off the bus at the wrong stop, walked the 1km up the Alps to the gorge to discover it was in fact closed. To make the most out of our journey we then proceeded to climb down to the gorge off the side of ...

We had a picnic on the hill above the museum, and then headed to the Berchtesgaden alpine museum in the town. It had an exhibition about the national park, how it was formed, and the flora and fauna that live there - really well done. All in all a really fun and educational day ...

The weather was mixed today so we decided to go to the town of Berchtesgaden and take a drive up the Rossfeldstrasse, the highest panoramic drive in Germany. It was then time for coffee and a cake in the town before having a quick stomp about. We needed to be back in reasonable time, as we were heading to Salzburg, to the cinema, having found a Cineplex that was showing Spectre in English !! Yeah ...

          Hallstatt, Austria's hidden gem

... people we've met and we enjoyed talking to them so much. I especially love the accents and their different nicknames and expressions for things like "blimey!" and "touch wood" instead of "knock on wood". Our room had a beautiful view over Lake Hallstatt and a wonderful breakfast each morning, complete with a different variation of Jane's homemade muffins, fresh fruit, cereals, hot fresh coffee, tea, rolls, hard boiled eggs, cheese, jams, etc, etc. We were totally spoiling ...
