... there it was a series of trains and buses for the next 8 hours until we reached Obertraun: 1 car ride, 2 buses, and 5 different trains total through the Alps. See our itinerary and map below. Our bed and breakfast was located in Obertraun, only a few miles from Hallstatt. Mark and Jane, along with their two teenage children, own and manage the place. Originally from London, they escaped the stressed out city life to enjoy family and nature in Austria. They were some of the ...

... is built at the bottom and up the side of a mountain on the edge of Lake Hallstatt. We loved this quaint little village and found it hard to believe how long people have been living there. Before all of this we're going to have a lazy day to take advantage of another ...

Benedictine Monks still live and work there managing both the Abbey as well as numerous parishes under their guard. The complex is very large but the rooms open to the public are few. They do include however the library and the exquisite chapel. Each day at noon the monks have a 15 min prayer session in the chapel ...

... 55357; way to go!
Easy trip to the Westbahnhof--train station. Got right on. Only had to change trains once in
Attnang-Putchen......try and say that fast 3 times ha ha. We knew we were on the right train, but it was a regional train so never an announcement for the stops. No signs posted on the train. No indication whatsoever where we were stopping. I mean yes, on the original schedule it listed 5 stops, but ...
