    ... to the parking lot and got on the road to Salzburg, Germany.

    BTW, the Autobahn is amazing here! The rest stops are super clean, and many of them have a play area for the kids. We stopped at one of these along the way; it also had incredible views of the what our drive looked like most of the way. Now if I was only driving a vehicle that would actually go 200 kms/hour without shaking like a rattled aspen leaf :-(

    ... 17 years for Ludwig to build the castle, of which only 1/3 is finished. He lived there only 172 days, before he was mysteriously drowned at the age of only 40. We all decided that someone got sick of him squandering a fortune, so they "did away with him". However, the castle instantly became a hit and people started touring it only six weeks after he died. And as you might know, it also became the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty's castle.

    ... of the day. Back in the bus & down for a tour of the old town including Maximilians golden roof. Such a lot of character about these buildings as with the baroque RC church was magnificent inside but unable to take photos unless one paid €1. I decided against it as I doubted it would really depict the magnificence of it & purchased a postcard instead for €.50. Once we finished our walking tour ...

    ... is a master of engineering the road up was built in a year, near the top is a tunnel into the mountain and a lift to the top. 406ft
    there was still snow on the ground at the top 6017ft. It is now a big tourist attraction and restaurant

    ... steeper, 40-minute walk up to the second castle. We were packed into the tour bus like sardines. The only other time I've seen that many people packed so tightly into public transportation was on the last Tube of the night in London. The shuttle dropped us off at a point still about a 10 minute uphill walk to the castle.
