... best way to see Bromo is at sunrise: we arose at 3am despite not getting to our hotel until after midnight. There are two options for sunrise: you can see it from the base of the main cone, or from Penanjakan viewpoint, which allows you to actually see the cone as the sunrises. ... We stood and waited with the crowds for about an hour and it was quite amazing. The sun rose to reveal a blanket of clouds with just the volcano peaks poking through. The journey down as equally as spectacular as we could see clouds falling and flowing like a waterfall.
