... bus station our new friends, a sweet auntie and her nephew, helped us find the right bus and offered us a place to stay, but we already had a hotel booked. When we arrived at Suryabaya we went to get a taxi but our guardian angels intervened, flagging down a reliable taxi and then, can you believe, they followed behind on a scooter to make sure we got to our hotel directly and safely. It just goes to show, there are some people that will rip you off but there are genuine locals ...

... t speak a word of English. There's no seatbelts in the van for anyone except the driver (which is just this giant loop of seatbelt glued to itself which he just slips on and off over his head - no buckle or anything. If we do crash it'll probably just snap his rib cage in half!). Most of the taxis we've taken here have no seatbelts for passengers. Obviously Indonesian's don't give a **** about passengers. Plenty more tourists to replace us!
