Zagora, Souss-Massa-Drâa, Morocco quatrequartSo a lot has happened in the past couple days but I dont have long to write about it all. I went on a three day trip with seven other people, all of which spoke english which I was thrilled about. This little excursion was definetely the highlight of this trip. We drove hundreds of miles through Eastern Morocco to visit some amazing sights. We went to Dades Gorge, a mini grand canyon with mountains all around ...
Ouarzazate, Morocco mightysevenHonestly, I don't know what all the fuss was about. Everyone moaning and complaining that they couldn't sleep a wink, that the mattress was so uncomfortable, that it was freezing, and that the winds were so loud they thought the tent was going to blow away. Well I slept like a baby ...
Zagora, Morocco sianeth... of snow were visible on some of the peaks in the distance, it was quite unique. The road kept winding and winding, and climbing and climbing until we found our way up into the High Atlas, where all there was was bare mountains, more spots of snow, a distinct chill in the air, and a ...
Zagora, Morocco sianeth... When we arrived back to camp we ate dinner and collapsed into our stretchers set up on the sand under another clear sky. As I enjoyed the view I could hear an Aussie guy raving on in a voice loud enought o wake the dead. Funny how you can travel so far yet still find Australia, for better or for worse Im not so sure. The next morning we awoke and jumped on some camels. Mitchell ¨Sand in my pants¨ Proudfoot and Bradley ¨Camel Toe¨ Ross atop their Saharan ...
Erg Chigaga, Morocco bradskey69... round from a river. Finally, on Wed night, we had a very nice candlelight dinner after the power in our hotel went out...remember that this is the desert and A/C is crucial. We improvised some torches with candles and a sprite bottle, and I was very lucky to have the crank powered flashlight that my Dad gave me for Christmas 2 years ago. Thanks Dad! The hotel was pitch black and the night was sweaty, but nothing too bad in the end.
Zagora, Morocco laurenandyFrom the Atlantic coastline and into the Saharan desert we plunged. On what was definitely the longest day of my life, we took a bus from Essaouira to Marrakesh and then had a three and a half hour wait to catch an overnight bus out to the town of Zagora. Leaving at 11pm, after a few drinks at a local piano bar, I thought I would have no trouble falling asleep on our eight hour bus ride. Boy was I wrong!! From the moment the bus ...
Zagora, Morocco hlautieWow, this by far was the most amazing experience ive had in Morocco if not ever. I think everyone should go and visit the desert, and that it should be a wonder of the world. Seriously, it was so cool... well hot, but still. We spent this last weekend in Merzouga, a small desert village in Eastern Morocco on the border of Alegeria, where there are these huge sand dunes. It was amazing, I dont even know how to describe it so I will post some pictures instead. We basically ...
Merzouga, Morocco fatima2002... zipping down the black topped highway that is barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other, plus the donkeys, pedestrians, bicyclists, random truck, and no shoulders. There is no way we could've driven 9 hours straight in that manner after our prior experiences! We tipped the driver out of sheer relief at being home in one piece and headed up the hill to Benjamin's apartment. Shannon and Beaker (the kitten) welcomed us home to a clean bed and a delicious dinner...ahh
Merzouga, Morocco rreeser... care of our touts (who now had names - Hasan and Hicham) - jokes, magic, music, story-telling and the most amazing drumming I've ever heard. We slept out under the stars on a dune not far from the Kazbah and awoke the next morning to the most beautiful sunrise... a perfect start to the perfect stay (for some ;-).

What followed the next 2 days was much of the same with a pinch of su doku and a ...
