Fresh from yesterday's meeting with the Slovak police, I thought that I would be able to manage to just tell them "No Euros, No Euros" and I'd be on my way! Well the way this policeman decided to deal with this was to tell me he was going to take my driving licence and once I'd paid it would be sent back to me in ...

... certainly has a turbulent history, including occupation by the Germans in WWII in 1944, with the Jewish community decimated with deportation to Polands Auschwitz, and a large majority of their beautiful churches, palaces and other buildings totally destroyed. They have been rebuilt and this is an ongoing programme of restoration work. The soviets then invaded in 1945 to then consolidated their power in Hungary until collapse of communism in 1989.
