... ended up watching a guy stuffed with explosives being set alight. The thing just went crazy with loud bangs and sparks flying everywhere! No wonder their roads are a mess!! It was great to be involved in a new years tradition alongside the locals. ... and sweating profusely by the end of it. Afterwards I take a bottle of cool beer and feel better after my 4th dip of the day.

Cali is a city of 2.4 million souls. It is large and busy, but our hostel is only 15 minutes walk from the historic centre and in the relatively nice neighborhood of San Antonio. Though hot in the day, it is comfortable at night so that we do not need AC or a fan.
