Get me outta here!

... no supermarkets, no shops, nada! By this stage we were starving as well, so the kind man who ran the hotel took pity on us and loaned us his car to take into the "nearby" village.... which was pretty much deserted. Sigh. We bought a loaf of bread, a tomato, some cheese and some ham, which was to be our dinner, and then our breakfast and lunch for the next day.

We decided one night in solitude was more than enough for both of us so packed up our gear ...

Minoans! (and why can't the land stop moving?)

... of a water flushing toilet.

Today we will wander around the old city with trips to the open air market and the archeological museum.

The ferry and airplane rides seem to affect my (Nancy's) inner ear in a way that on land, everything continues to move. It is annoying and made hiking up and down rocky hillsides a little extra challenging. Hopefully it will quiet down now that there are nop more ferry rides.

Knossos

... Greek story tellers - the Minoans were highly organized and technologically advanced some 4000 years ago, and well before the Greeks. The palace grounds were bought from the Turks in 1900, by a British archaeologist, Harold Evans, and he spent the next 35 years investigating and restoring (controversially) the ruins. Well done Evans and another yah boo sucks to Lord Elgin.

We went to one of the beach front bars near Leoniki Residence for cocktails. The view at ...

Somehow wherever I am on holiday I think about Mark. Perhaps it's because you notice couples holding hands on the beach or it's just part of the holiday romance ...

Thankful

Just finished reading Portraits by Cynthia Freeman. Makes me feel even more grateful for my family. I must be one of the luckiest girls around to have a family who love and support me.

Where to eat?

... to get us eating at there place. But thankfully they didn't - with exception of one, but you have that evrywhere, don't you? "Hello come into my restaurant. We sell nice food.. fish.. meat.." and they quote the whole menu to you while all you want to do is run away. So in our case not the best way to get us to eat there. That's sounds like rather childish behaviour of us if I read that :/

I just swollowed salt water *Yuck!* The sea was lovely though - many waves!
It's hot!

It's been hot! Walked down to Lagaria beach this morning and even at 10 am the sun was phew! We wanted to find a supermarket for some breakfast and perhaps dinner. Lagaria beach is very picturesque. The sea looked so inviting! Why oh why didn't we wear our bikinis? Thankfully found a supermarket where we bought some apricot jam, sesame rolls, Edammer cheese, cream cheese, and a blow-up ball with pretty ...

A tough start

... their the ticket man sells us the wrong tickets and we almost got the wrong bus! It was thanks to Eve's observance and a friendly Greek man that we found it out - he also helped us get the right tickets and bus.

The bus dropped us off right on the edge of a busy road in what looked like nomans land and pointed towards a road sign which said Agia Pelagia 2 km. 2 Scottish girls, 2 long weeks, 2 Greek islands

... talking to people! Nikki and John were well aware that I couldn't speak Dutch before they employed me in their Dutch bar. I expressed my concerns that I couldn't take part in discussions even though I wanted to because of the language barrier. Nikki promised to "try and remember" to speak in English for my sake. Her argument was that 99% of customers CAN speak English, and that if I tried speaking to them in English, they would reply in English. My argument, after several ...
