Boring Generalities

... is a good size with lots of cupboard space. It has a small fridge, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and clothes washer. There are two bathrooms. One full (including bidet) and one half with a toilet, “bidet wand” sink and shower coming out of the wall so that the whole bathroom essentially becomes a shower. All floors are beige tile, all walls are painted beige and there are wall air conditioners in the bedrooms and living room. It’s fine for me but ...

One of our favorite activities.......the Pool!!

One of the best things to help cool off in the dessert heat is.......a pool. One of our resasons for selecting unit A1 was due to the wonderful views of both the Aspire tower/stadium and the pool that is just 75 feet away. We enjoy the pool day and night.

Reflections on Nepal, Hello Doha

... absolutely wild how different it was, and how unwild the traffic was, no horns, woopee. Crazier still we checked into a wonderfully posh 4 star Best Western, where the beds finally aren't hard as a rock. Thank god. It was a lazy sleep filled afternoon before we ventured out for dinner. We walked down to the Corniche, the main boulevard that curves around the bay in Doha by the Port all the way to the city center. Off the ...

Two weeks left to my trip

... sitting outside smoking ergileh. Gave you that true Arabian feel. I've been sleeping in for the most part of the days. I wish I could get up and enjoy the day better but my laziness isn't allowing me. I don't have anything special planned for this last week coming. A couple of nights with my cousins friend, restaurants and some shopping. Thats about it. But I'll be sure to write something before my return. 'Till the next entry, take care. Ja

Sand and sun... lots of both

... we spent the rest of the afternoon at the above-mentioned pool enjoying spectacular views of the skyline (and the pool all for ourselves, by the way). We had to leave after a few hours before freezing to death and this, by the way, pointed out to the unbelievably energy inefficiency that we've seen in this country (almost as bad as in the US): arctic temperatures indoors, open store doors letting out a blizzard of cold air, driving around with open ...

First Impressions...

My travels to UK: After the 5 hour DELAY at durbs, we finally got to joburg, where Jacques sister Elrike and her husband Alan fetched us. We spent three days with them before heading off to UK! (Thanks Elrike and Alan for putting up with us for sooo long!!) Then came the flight to London, what a disaster! Don't get me wrong; Qatar Airways is a great company! But I wish they would put I restriction on babies flying on long ...

Luxury in the Gulf

So yesterday I was still feeling pretty marginal, and after about an hour of pondering in the steamy internet cafe, I wrote the "buy a plane ticket home" email to my parents. It was a little challenging with the time difference, but we eventually connected (sparked by an email from my dad to the US Embassy that I was cc'd on trying to track me down) and they got the ticket. I had second thoughts that evening, and woke the hostel owner up at ...

Dhaka to Doha - Lost bag and hotel transfer

... between the two cities) I was a bit surprised to find that Doha Airport is a bit old fashioned .. It does not have anyboarding bridges and uses bus to pick and drop passangers between the plan and tarminal building. We passed through the immigration quite easily and was waiting for my bag at the belts. I noticed the "Lost and Found" buth at a corner of the lounge. I did not put much notice on it then but if I knew how many times I have to refer to it in ...

My first Camel sighting!

... take a video and post it to show you more specifically what i mean. After the sun was down and the sky was still light i noticed camels on the side of the road. It was very exciting! It also explained why they have a wire fence around the road--to keep the camels out. Some of the other quirks to this area... -it may be 110+ degrees outside but the locals keep the A/C at about 60 degrees. You have to go outside to thaw out! (which doesn't take ...
