Doha, Qatar larissa-ume... the day to day tourist types of activities. In these countries, it seems that Filipinos are most often the ones working in the hotels. They are the housekeeping staff, the bellmen, the desk managers. Often most of the shopkeepers are also Filipino and beauty shop people are Thai or Filipino. Restaurants have a mix and that might be the best shot of meeting a local. In Doha, the taxi drivers seem to be all ...
Doha, Qatar carpefeline... have a luxury vehicle or two parked at home but for everyday use, nothing seems to be the Land Cruiser. There are also plenty of Porsche Cayennes and there may be more in the future as the State of Qatar is in talks with Porsche/Volkswagen to purchase something like 25% of Porsche.

I looked at Civics, Accords, Mazda 3 and 6, Corollas, and a few (used) beamers. I also priced out, but didn’t test drive some Nissans (Versa or Tiida here ...
Doha, Qatar beyondwpgWell apparently the rumor that the fingeprint place is not open until noon is true. Got up early and at the request of the "local HR director" I tested the rumors.....it was closed. Went early at lunch on to see that 9-10 local labourers were already standing in line. It was a cool 106 degrees as I stood outside for only 20 minutes this time. The 'fingerprint' guy saw me and recognized me from my 1.5 ...
Doha, Qatar koobfamily... and one for women. The one for men stretched a mile long and took me 45 minutes to pass through, Kristen made it through hers in under 3 minutes... In Nepal, the men dance with the men, and men walk around the streets holding hands. Women are, for lack of a better way of putting it, god knows where. But in the snazzy Western style malls of Doha the women and men interact and shop together. I admit, seeing women fully covered was for me at first ...
Doha, Qatar jimmyandkristen... see the match scheduled to kick off at 7:30 After two hours and twenty minutes to travel seven miles, we made it to the stadium twenty minutes into the match. It was awsome watching David Beckham play football fifty metres away from us and being a small stadium, we were basically on the side line for a bit, until the security guard told us to get back. After watching AC Milan play football right in front of us, we walked ...
Doha, Qatar ccarew... the entire city was lit up. The new Burj Dubai, already the tallest building in the world at over 600 meters and not yet completed, towers above everything in Dubai. It makes 50 storey buildings look miniscule. The Dubai airport is like Las Vegas on steroids: masses of people and chrome and neon everywhere. The immigration queue was a nightmare. There is a dedicated First and Business Class line, but no ...
Doha, Qatar juicer0... through the entire process. I am going to try and venture out to a dance party either this weekend or next - although I think that they are a more subdued event as they supposedly kick of at 9 (really get going by 11) and finish by 2 - so 3 hours of dancing and partying seems to be the way that things are done. Now that the weather is a bit better I will also be doing a bit more things outdoors in terms of street food and some ...
Doha, Qatar edip.okur... I was thinking this was going to be a two or three hour flight but it turned out to be nearly six hours, which actually suited me just fine as that was long enough to get in a good breakfast and a nap - without having to worry about oversleeping and missing anything. During the flight, I smiled a few times at a curvacious Muslim woman who was pretty much covered from head to toe. To my surprise, when she passed by my seat to go to the toilet, she slipped a napkin into ...
Doha, Qatar bangkokrandy... make up only 40% of population, foreigners comprise 60%!! - $1US will buy you 5 liters of gas, but only 3 liters of water! (tons of oil and gas here in Qatar). - There seems to be a competition between Qatar and Dubai. After Dubai built their Palm Island, Qatar decided to build "The Pearl" island... basically the same thing, different shape: A massive land-fill formed luxury island. Dubai is building the tallest building ...
