North Beach Eilat, Israel, 88000, 8-638-9999
... stopped at had ancient petroglyphs in Arameic, that essentially said something along the lines of "Jesus was here" or another random name. We also stopped at some amazing ancient housings carved into the walls, old wells, and some amazing arches - one of which the group climbed up to the top of and got amazing shots from the bottom. [I do not have one on my camera and will post it later when I get a copy]. One of the funny things that ...
Wadi Rum, Jordan jeremystravels... again.
She's staying at a 4 star resort with a private beach. I take a quick shower and we go straight to the water. I meet her very sweet friend that came here with her.
Eilat is the resort capital of Israel. It's where Israelis and tourists come for fun in the sun and sometimes shelter during war since Eilat is never hit. But mostly it's just a resort trap. Every time I come here it has newer, bigger hotels and more tourists. Now it even has a fake castle where they have ...
... there. I must admit we were all a bit weary going out on the bridge part of the arch but we all did, I was banned from jumping :( After we all took photos etc and scrambled back down we were in the jeeps for the last time today and soon we arrived at the camp were the cook had the earth oven already going and the food almost done.
The camp was simple and very basic but quite nice, have to remember these guys are true nomads roaming ...
... We knew, of course, how to ride a camel properly from watching Lawrence (one leg hooked over the front of the saddle with the foot tucked under the other ankle) so we immediately felt pretty pleased with ourselves. They really are beautiful animals. The day was spent riding for an hour or so, getting off and exploring (ancient pictographs, climbing and then sliding down tall red sand dunes - NB this looks more fun than it actually is - I wasn't ...
Wadi Rum, Jordan hamiltonfamilyThis morning I watched the sunrise over the mountains which was nice, I was awake pretty early cos even though I enjoy sleeping outside it ended up being pretty uncomfortable. After the usual breakfast we started our camel trek. I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. I had a good memory of riding a camel list time in Egypt and this was nothing like that. There was something under the padding of the seat that kept digging into my legs ...
Aqaba, Jordan zerns01... incredible coral beneath us. I swam with some tropical fish, and hovered over enormous pieces of coral. I was so scared, but it was amazing! By the time we got out, we were exhausted, but well worth our energy. As the boat drove us back to the shore, we sat on the front of the ship and felt the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces as we bobbed over the waves. It was so much fun! Back at shore, we carefully tip-toed through the sharp rocks and coral to get a little ...
Dead Sea, Aqaba, Wadi Run, Jordan lpehmoe1... created walking milk machines who can't fend for themselves, but does our choice to breed an animal for a purpose justify it? The question to me boils down to would they be better off having a life on such a farm or not at all? The other night I took a walk around the cow shed. A Cow was licking a still calf on the ground. It was dead, possibly a broken neck. Looking at it I was pleased; pleased it did not have to live. That to me answered the question.
Eilat, Israel gouldy... them in the morning and ends up walking into a mine field. While the Egyptians attempt to help them another Israeli patrol runs up. Thinking that the Egyptians had attacked the Israeli patrol they start shooting and chasing the Egyptians. It is not a happy ending. But it is a very compelling story. There is an English summary at the end and it turns out that is a true story. We put our heads on the pillow and in seconds, we are asleep. Click here for today's photos.
Eilat, Israel journeyer... bus back to Netanya. No rest for the wicked, the next day we headed out to explore Tel Aviv. Walked through some jam packed Israeli markets and down the beach before meeting up with Talmors' cousin Imbal, who lives in the city. She walked us around the area where she lives and where the young people hang out. It was really cool, like a mix between Fremantle (think Aubergine and the ex-wray cafe), and London (more metropolitan ...
Eilat, Israel annastelter... situations. I can even pee into a squatty on a highway bus speeding down a freeway without holding onto the safety rail. Although this backfired on me once when the driver braked suddenly and sent me flying into the wall head first. But the point is the toilet at the bus station left me perplexed. I blocked my nose and rolled up my trouser legs as I contemplated my options. Stand on rim, squat and risk foot falling into bowl and contents? Stand on top with butt sticking out? Not ...
