Our holidays always seem to begin at Wetherspoons! Got dropped off by the in laws at the train station to start our adventure! And my bestie called in to see us off! Thanks so much dawn!! Pint of Guinness before the train to Manchester airport! We are so excited! And a little bit nervous to be fair. Not just for the 15 hour (!) flight either! It's such ...

          ... cute!!

I found the old-fashioned merry-go-round in the market square and I had my first experience of Hot Roasted Chestnuts in a paper bag - I was very happy!!! I sat and ate them while watching the merry-go-round kids' fun! :-)

Overall, I was put off by the commercial nature of York, although I do understand that everyone has to make money somehow. I wasn't there long enough to get through that veneer and find ...

You guessed it, there wasn't much choice in the matter - the exchange took place and the cricket club moved - that happened within Dennis' memory, so if and when the Waltons from the 1800s played cricket, it would have been right next to the school. I've emailed the Knaresborough Cricket Club to see if they have any archives - you never know....

... village of Ilkley. We had heard on the radio on our way that Yorkshire has the highest number of smokers in England. I think that explained the note on the wall in our room - don't think we'd ever seen such a warning about smoking in the room! Good though.

It was interesting to read a little blurb in the room about the building that opened as a hotel in 1844 and was named after the towns original name of Wheatley. It ...

... playing and shortly afterwards Dom and Becky brought
out a suitcase with wigs, blow up guitars, oversize glasses, butterfly wings
and all sorts of other stuff. The dance
floor was soon covered with some strange looking individuals using the props in
all sorts of ways. A good time was had
by all until about 1am I believe.

It was lovely to be part of such a happy event and
especially nice to spend some time with Ryan.
          It was also ...
