That morning we witnessed the Ngakso Drupchen Puja, held annually, for ten days, 24 hours a day on rotations. My Gurus were surprised to see me and yet so happy with gleaming eyes, summoned me towards their altar and asked me if I would join them for prayers. I smiled in shame. They laughed and understood my reason.
My Gurus are Tulku Pasang and Chokyi Nyingma Rinpoche (The Abbot). We managed to witness both the opening ...

Were it not for the most spectacular mountains on the planet, Nepal might be known for history, art and architecture. For Kathmandu was a cultural center in the time of the Buddha (500 BC), and pilgrims' trails from India are literally worn into the rock in places. Nepal and the Kathmandu valley in particular ...
A few people have been curious as to what my life is actually like at the orphanage. I wake up between 6:30 and 7 am. At that point, one of the women who works there brings me a cup of very sweet tea. I walk outside, where it is freezing and drink my tea while thinking about what to do with the kids today. I then go to the each room and see how the kids are. There are 3 rooms, one with the young boys, one with the older boys ...

We have a mid forties French lady who soon shows me up on the camera stakes and produces a very nice Nikon. We also have German guy who surprisingly has a sense of humour and is very witty, (German I know).
After we all introduce ourselves we are informed of the plan for the next few days. It is at this ...

We met up with Franziska and Axel yesterday to go and visit a monkey temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, high up on a hill which overlooked the valley. It was pretty cool. In the afternoon, we walked about 10km to another city (!), Patan - checked out their Durbar Square (lots of Hindu and Buddhist temples) and had a nosey ...

Kathmandu, Nepal marymc21... and drought dust are hanging in the air.
There are forest fires in the Langtang, Sugarmatha, and Annapurna regions. At night locals burn trash in the streets. And then there's the Asian Brown Cloud. It's a permanent mass of pollution that hangs over the Indian subcontinent, a result of lots of pollution and unfortunate weather systems.
Anyway, after the somewhat traumatic journey, the Monkey Temple was quite tame. A big ...
