We were sitting at breakfast, looking our the window and I said to Michael that someone important is obviously here because there is a big black Toyota Crown Royal outside. There were also Police and hotel staff all standing outside waiting to see them off. We walked out after breaky and Vice Governor Chen was waiting with an English teacher from the University to take us around today. As we walked outside... you guest it, the staff lined up and saw us off and the Toyota Crown was our car. We...
Jinghong, Yunnan, China hrccpamI forgot to mention yesterday that Madam Dao was late for dinner and we had to wait at the hotel until she was at the restaurant to greet us. The reason she was late was that she and the Magistrate of the Country that borders Myanmar (Burma) and Xishuanbana were at the border checking where they would put refugee camps if the trouble broke out again in Myanmar. Last week there was trouble on the border and refugees crossed into Xishuanbana. Everything is fine now the the people have gone back...
Jinghong, Yunnan, China hrccpam Must start by saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKEY.... HE TURNED A BIG 6 YEARS OLD TODAY! WE LOVE YOU!!
The day started of with a stroll to the local market to by a Majong set. Talk about local market... you should have seen the butchers section,,, it was enough to make you vegitarian for life. Open tables with meat being cut with meat cleavers, meat and offel all over the concrete paths and dogs and flies just to finish off the scene. But we found out Majong set. As we handed over the 120 yuan (ab...
On Saturday night I went to Speakeasy bar in Kunming again and stayed for most of the night. It definitely isnt as busy as it used to be but a good band played a set of music and I chatted to a few people including an American and his chinese friends. Sunday was Mid Autumn Festival so I was to spend the evening with Jack and his family. But prior to that I had lunch with Tony and his friends at a Simao resturant. It was a nice lunch and I got to met Tony's Mum. She was a really vibrant and ha...

... asses off, is all so depressing.

We went back to our Random **** Hole in Jinghong for one more night and were awoken at 3am by some local lads who had rolled in from the local nightclub with, to our chagrin, some local prostitutes. Marvellous. I went outside to shout at them to keep the noise down, but they were more interested in getting a good look at us. Another brilliant night’s sleep…

................... ........................

Fish Face ...
Jinghong, Yunnan Province, China danilovescats... to go. Bruno was already thinking the same thing and then a blind massage afterwords. Perfect idea in our opinion. While Bruno went to the post office we stayed at the hotel to sort things out in our bags. We met them and headed to the Tropical Flowers Botanical Gardens. I was hoping to find it interesting, but I would settle for relaxing. We had already only wearing our shirts with the sleeves roles up. It was gorgeous ...
Jinghong, Yunnan, China ssfahring... made only slightly less relaxing by the fact that the people working there having figured that I spoke some Chinese decided to try and chat to me the entire time which is less than easy when your head is wedged in a hole looking at the floor and you can't see their expressions. Also, a trip to a rainforest reserve just north of Jinghong which is apparently home to some 300 wild elephants. Unfortunately it is now also the home ...
Jinghong, Yunnan, China lucyxuesheng... dance to Beijing's flute, the days in the west begin and end later. We woke up around 08:00, had remarkably familiar meal (fried green vegetables over rice), bid farewells to the hosts and joined our guide who was heading in the same direction as us. When the time came to walk our separate ways, our guide pointed us at the direction of Bulangshan and disappeared west into the rice fields. We continued walking through rice fields and ...
Damenglong, Yunnan, China gilliguy... reklame? Paa vej op til busstation, hvor naeste punkt paa agendaen fandt sted, havde vi masser af tid til at forbande hippierne fra LP og kommunisterne. Venstreorienteret hele bundtet, so what's the difference?
Jinghong, Yunnan, China travelrookiesSo with Lao visa firmly in hand, I catch a bus south for Jinghong, aka ChiengRung ('dawn capital') in the native Tai dialect of the original inhabitants, for this was once part of a proto-Tai/Thai state situated on and around the Mekong River and one of the five original ‘Chiengs’, the others now located in what is now Shan state Burma, northern Thailand, and northern Laos, radiating out ...
