The waves at Shirasato are great, and the undertow is strong. I'm not a strong swimmer, so I didn't dare venture out too deep, but with my inner tube, it was great fun to try to catch the waves. A few times, I managed to ride them nearly back to shore! Other times, I'd just get flipped over and with the strong current against me, found myself floundering in a couple of inches of water, unable to get to my feet again. Fun times ...

... started to tell me how he had just come back from Thailand and how he had been ripped off. Apparently a Lady Boy had followed him for two weeks, broke into his accommodation, tried to blackmail him, ripped up his passport (he showed me his old passport and new temporary passport) and generally had a **** time. The whole airport is very clean and tidy- no litter. The ATM changes a minimum cash withdrawal of ¥ 10000 but foreign exchange will change $20. The tellers have everything checked by the male behind the table :) ...
