"Jon, do you think you're fat?"

... report. Oh, and for any would be English teachers reading this, try to remember NOT to ask a kid called Sunny what the weather is like. It just creates all kind of confusion that leads to frustration!

Well, that's enough for today. Now I'm full of Hite (the Korea version of Carling) I'm about to put on my hat and gloves and find that crazy Korean's English teacher and practice some of Taekwondo moves...

My humps aka. Gyeongju Day 1

... t too bad at all, and for 6000 won, we can't really complain.

After lunch, we decided to go see the sights, aiming to do most of the ones in the city that day (even though it was about 2pm when we first started). First up was Tumuli park, which was a rather small park with numerous mounds all around, which are graves during the Silla Period in Korea. There was one that we could go see the inside called Cheonmacheong, which I'm not sure if we had to ...

Talking about my (Girls) Generation

... kids. Thursday and Friday were better as I knew what to expect and tried different tactics, such as ignoring the trouble makers and directing the class to the good kids. that seemed to work pretty well as the ones causing trouble stopped when they weren't getting attention.

One of the kids caught me off card when he made a "round eyes" gesture at me. I'm sure you can picture it - kind of the ...

Feel the fear but do it anyway

... gestured at me to get out. i said no, this is not it, but he insisted that it was, smiling. SO i got out and didn't recognise anywhere! What to do?! So I just crossed the road and headed back into Seoul where I picked up a taxi who typed the address into his sat nav system. I then began to relax for about, 5 secons, until he did u-turn and headed back in the same direction that the bus had headed! I borrowed his phone (phone gesture ...

Glutton for Punishment

... which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Therefore, this place is much cleaner and fresher. It only takes 30 minutes by a local bus to get there. Of course, by now we are familar with local transport. English is spoken here. HUGE surprise still for us. Of course, Crazy Brit has decided to include a temple-stay in our itinerary, which includes a wakeup call by a monk chanting & bashing a moktok at 4 ...

Gyeongju - Sorkuram, Bulkuksa, Bogyeonsa

June 2 & 3...drove about 5 hours southeast of Seoul to the Gyeongju area to see the temples at Sorkuram and Bulkuksa. Some of the nicest rest stop food I've ever had along the way -wonderful udon. After seeing the shrine at Sorkuram, walked along the "natural road" to Bulkuksa to see the larger temple grounds there. Afterwards, drove north of Pohang to Bogyeonsa to stay the night so that we could hike above the temple on ...

Birthdays!

... group consisted of me, Stephen, Melissa, Kang, Jeon, Fred, Gyoungmin, Hyunji, Hyunji's little sister "Ashley", Hwany, and Hwany's friend Charlie. It was a quiet, unremarkable week (like so many others). The weekend was superb though. I can't imagine not getting to see these people! Friday was pretty simple - Oh!My Dak for some chicken with Brandon, Stephen, and Yuran. Then Melissa came for a bit and we went to Yes! John and Tom showed up and stayed with me and ...

Blossoms of a cherry

... spent half the ride standing, but it was worth it. In Jinhae there was an overwhelming amount of kokoKorea-tastic people watching to be had. My favorite were the young men in their Navy uniforms and the high school kids out in force to help with pedestrian traffic. They had whistles and were doing hand movements and would bow and say thank you for coming when it was time to cross. So cute. Melissa and I arrived home almost exactly 12 hours after ...
