... and we stayed until we were ready to retire for the evening.

Sat 14 Nov
Next day we had a sleep-in and then went for a run around the 4km city walls. Twice around was enough for Kim and I managed a 3rd. After a shower we were back in town for more meandering and I had one of the best Cupuccio's (Capuccino) ever!! We found a few hours during siesta to catch up with the ...
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy darrenhough74... on the main street near our apartment and came across one which we hadn’t seen open before- it had beautiful looking pastries- why didn’t we find it before our last day? Actually, I didn’t think they were as nice as the French ones we had.
We had to pack our bags and get organised for the move out of the apartment.
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy kiama_on_tour... reason, the train didn't stop there and we ended up at Riomaggiore (can’t trust a timetable!). I convinced everyone that they could walk the Via dell’Amore or Lover’s Lane which we had read was a 30 minute walk suitable for everyone. It was but was very hot as it faced the west and there was little shade. We should have done it first thing when we arrived, but hadn’t realised it would be so hot. We ended up walking most of the ...
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy kiama_on_tourJust realized those not on facebook haven't seen pictures from Pisa and Florence. No long recap of Anthony and I's weekend in Tuscany, for obvious reasons. Also note that "Anthony and Alison's Great Adventure" was like taking a knife.

Love you guys! :)
Pisa, Tuscany, Italy anthony.alison... We found a restaurant that had been recommended called Ristorante Giglio but we arrived too early- in true Italian style, it didn’t open until 7:30 pm, so we just had to go promenading with the locals until it opened. I came across the chocolate shop open that was closed earlier when we went past so I had a look. The dinner at the restaurant was probably the best meal we had had in Italy. I had a Tuscan dish ...

Rick & Elsie!
Livorno, Tuscany, Italy ricknelsie... drink any more alcohol or lose any more sleep I had to go. It's funny to me that from now on when I think of Florence, I will think of a fun, party city rather than the church and art and river. Funny.

Alright, so here I am in Lucca -- two, not one. The train ride was even more beautiful than the trip from Rome to Siena. Gorgeous and picturesque don't do the landscape justice. And I love riding second class where there isn't air conditioning, so you just have these ...
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy josiezim... thankyou' and 'can I have half a litre of red wine?'!!!) Left a copy of my driver's licence and vowed to return with all the apropriate documentation to complete the police report. Mobile phones nearly flat (chargers were stolen too) so went to Chris and Maureen's hotel who were helpful with phone. Finally managed to get name of glass company, and an appointment on Monday to fix? window. Returned to camp a bit dejected . . .
Lucca, Tuscany, Italy rippunzel... As soon as I said "no", she turned it off instantly, like a faucet. The other beggars I encountered were pretty pathetic as well ... they weren't even begging in the traditional sense. They were just wandering around and waving their cups around. It's hard to describe ... it just seemed like they all felt entitled to free money. It was quite a disgusting sight, actually! Lucca does have one really interesting feature - above its city walls (they run ...
Pisa/Lucca, Italy pwong... walked the cobble stoned streets. On our way back home stopped in to say hi to my Aunt and all the cousins who were arriving home from work. They gave us fresh vegetables and fruits to take home to MAMMA! Then we picked up MAMMA and went to famous bridge called Ponte De Diavolo (The Devil's Bridge). It's a cool looking steep bridge that makes you wonder how it was constructed over such a span and with such an arch! Then it was ...
