... Lizzie, yes her face is still plastered all over their currency.. ah we missed her...thirdly the accent, Carribean English is a language in itself... tougher than Spanish. <br><br>Most people come to Belize to go snorkeling in the coral reefs but Belize is not a cheap country especially in the real touristy places so we decided to just head to Orange Walk to check out the Maya ruins at Lamanai, trying to avoid all the tourists again ...

Orange Walk, Belize troispistoles... to drive us to a local hotel while we thought about it. The first hotel he took us to was owned by hi brother-in-law. It was a hole. Then he took us to his dad's place - a nice place by the river, but it only had dorms. I'm a holidaymaker rather than a traveller this time and I wanted a room, so I turned it down. Finally, we settled on Lance's aunt's place, which was ok. For the rest of the day, we walked around Orange Walk. This place reminds me of Klamath Falls in ...
Orange Walk, Belize sam180... times further. The hotel with attached crocodile happy for touching its nose was great, the cable TV was just what I needed after a long day full of rain during the river tour to and at the ruins of Lamanai. Soaked is the word, wet the sensation. Lovely ceviche as starters, big enough for the main meal. The local Rum is lovely! Here I met Rye a very decent chap from Oregon with whom I continued down south to Tabacco Cayes for some beach. b.
Orange Walk, Yucatan Peninsula, Belize pfaelzerbubThis morning we left and drove back through Orange Walk on our way to the Crooked Tree Bird Sanctuary. This is one of the best bird watching destinations in Belize with over 16,400 acres of waterways, logwood swamps and lagoons. The most famous resident is the Jabiru Stork, which arrives in November and leave in May. With a wingspan of between eight and twelve feet it is ...
Crooked Tree, Belize mikeandmary... saw, although they do now also use tractors but only with steel wheels, not rubber. Continuing on we eventually got to a place called La Milpa, located near some Mayan ruins, but also within a conservation area it is rich in wildlife. So far today we have seen lots of birds, a male white deer plus a mother and very small fawn that was suckling still. We also saw a male and female oscillated turkey. The male makes a ...
La Milpa, Belize mikeandmary... amusing guide, Hilberto took us on a walk through the jungle to get to the ruins. On the way a girl in our group spotted a small cute looking snake (if snakes can ever look cute) curled up on a rock. As we all crouched down to get photos our guide walked over to see what the fuss was about. He then (very casually) informed us that it was known as a ´Five Step´ snake ...
Orange Walk, Belize john_and_jules... through the jungle and after about 45 minutes, came to the Orange Walk Tower Hill Sugar Refinery, which refines 100% of the sugarcane in Belize. Sugar is about a third of the country's exports. The bagasse (waste from the refining) is used to generate electricity in Belize. Belize seems to be very hard up for electricity for some reason, with signs in some of the hotel rooms claiming a kilowatt of electricity costs ten times more in Belize than in the U.S., and nine times more than ...
