We got to Chiang Mai about 9am and the train station was full of people trying to give us a tuk tuk, taxi or mini van ride. 200 baht. We ended up getting one for 150. We arrived at our hotel and were straight away impressed. The foyer is gorgeous high backed can chairs, and highly decorated tables with good lighting made us feel at home already (My …

So we got up early again at 6 and headed down and had breakfast. We had a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Then we had singapore noodles, fried rice, fruit and tea. With both of us feeling better after yesterday we were looking forward to doing the ATV tour through the jungle having done the ATV in phuket. What I didn't realise was the …

Rols and I slept in this morning as we knew we didn't get picked up until 9 for our cooking school. We got up at 7 and had some breakfast in hindsight we shouldn't have eaten a thing! We had fruit, fried rice, egg, granola, tea, noodles, bagel, cream cheese and smoked salmon. We headed upstairs and attempted to pack our bags for checkout today but …

Arrived to enjoy Yi Peng Loy Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai. Fireworks, firecrackers and sky lanterns (Khom Fai) being released everywhere. A lot to do outside of the city. Wish I could have stayed here longer.

From Prison to Pristine....

On Monday we went from the prison massage in the morning to our 5 star spa in our hotel in the afternoon for a massage ---- since it is so reasonable we went all out for a couples Warm Ginger Massage. Kevin chose the energizing oil and I chose balancing oil ---- of course Kevin wanted me to choose sensual but I thought better!! It was truly life as it should be.........

Historical Traveler Reviews Dusit D2 Chiang Mai

    'D'elightful, 'D'elicious, and 'D'electable ...

    from anonymous

The title of this review describes this Hotel completely. Hip, Trendy, Modern, and New, this hotel meets all expectations. The service is amazing - they speak practically fluent English, and some speak more than that. They are helpful and are genuinely interested in helping you. The manager is very gracious as well, greeting you when you arrive. He is full of smiles, and you laugh when you see that on his card, he isn't the traditional General Manager, but he is the "Guru".

The food is great, you won't even need to leave the hotel if you want to eat. A variety of choices, and presented well. The chef looks young, but his food tastes as if he has had years of experience.

The rooms (the normal ones) are small but comfortable and worth the money, you get a plasma TV with a variety of channels. Entertainment, Sitcoms, News, Sports, Music, Movies, etc.

But the great part about the hotels is the uniqueness and the details. Little bits, like the salt and pepper shakers, the sinks, the glasses, are all funky looking. A part that you MUST see while staying there is the "D2 Dance", which at around mid-afternoon, the staff do a 2 minute dance where they sing a "D2 Song" which has music to go with it. It's just the way that they change shifts. The chairs are even unique and may look bizarre at first, but are actually quite comfy. There are so many things that are great - just go and see for yourself, it's worth the money. And at the prices, it's amazing. Compare it to the Four Seasons which is about 5 times more expensive - the D2 is worth much more in many aspects.

So if you're heading to Chiang Mai - this is the place for you. Kudos to the entire D2 team.

    Superb Service, Hip Decor

    from anonymous

This hotel really pays attention to the details. THe service was fantastic, food good, design hip, and rates reasonable for what you get.

    Excellent Hotel !!

    from alicetye

Stayed at this new hotel for 3 nights with my boyfriend and family and do not regret it at all. In short, excellent location right next to the night bazzar, sleek and chic deco, good service, friendly staff, delicious food (best pad thai noodles in chiang mai), and comfortable rooms despite their small size. However, need to be cautious with the bathtub as it seems to be made for tall people. Other rooms with standing showers looked safer. Also, could change type of towels to more absorbent fabrics.

The Spa was nice and staff were courteous. But, if you want to safe some $$ and have the time will recommend Oasis Spa, who offers free pick-up service.

In comparison to the Four Seasons and Mandarin hotel, D2 hotel is surely value for money. Will stay here again!!!

    Great Hotel, Service, Location

    from mauitutu

Outstanding experience. Two senior citizens became instantly "hip" in this contemporary delightful hotel.

Our room included flat screen tv, glass shower, glass sink, comfortable bed. Quiet despite its location. Spotlessly maintained. All this and service that was friendly and well, wonderful. The Thai's are so gracious it seems to rub off on everyone.

Location, Location, Loacation--if you want to experience all the excitement and fun of the night markets, this is the place. Walk one half block and you are there! Walk the other direction for two blocks and very quick, very affordable internet.

Concierge(Wittaya Intakok) gave us excellent suggestions for dinner. River cafe was divine and so was the 5 star Chinese restaurant($23 total for food and beer) He also arranged for a car and driver to take us to Maesa Elephant Camp. Driver was very well informed and spoke English very well. You will never meet smarter elephants than the soccer playing, harmonica band!! Don't skip this.

Delicious breakfast buffet--good dinner choices--very reasonable prices at the bar! Again, that outstanding Thai service.

This is a total thumbs up for very reasonable price. Put yourself in the hands of the front desk and concierge and you'll have a wonderful time in lovely Chiang Mai.

We thank each and every employee at D2 from the front desk, Concierge, wait staff in the bar and dining room to the maids for making our stay memorable! room,

    Highly recommended!

Just stayed here for 4 nights with my family-- the hotel is brand spanking new, modern and bright. Our experience was great aside from wishing the pool were done.

Rooms are small but comfortable and well decorated and lit. We had some problems with the airconditioning but it was fixed by the hotel. Breakfast is basic. Important info is the bathtub/shower combo requires mobility. You need to step in quite deep, and care is needed.

The spa is very nice, massage not special compared to others I had over a long vacation. However the reception and setting is very nice.

The highlight is the concierge service-- outstanding. Our stay would have been very different without the exceptional help. They helped arrange drivers, tailors, shopping areas, day trips to and their recommendations were great. We even relied on them via cell phone while out to communicate with drivers due to language barriers. The staff is professional, warm, and competent. I expect this hotel will be much busier soon.

D2 - Cool and funky fun

    from Liz_Stelz

This hotel would be considered excellent if the pool and spa were opened. It is definitely a fun, funky place to stay staffed with an accomodating staff in an atmosphere of contemporary elegance. The little gift left in a plexiglass box by the bedside each night is a fun extra. The hotel staff really exudes excitement and they seem to have a good time on the job which makes the hotel experience particularly enjoyable. The whole staff actually performs a dance to signal "shift change" in the afternoon. The hotel is situated 1/2 block from the night bazaar which makes it a great location to quickly run back to the room at night for bathroom breaks to avoid using squat toilets. I will definitely use this hotel again when in Chaing Mai.

    A gorgeous experience

    from ^^^

The new D2 Hotel in Chiang Mai is conveniently located just steps from the Night Market. The hotel is fashionably appointed and the staff is trained. We wanted for absolutely nothing during our week's stay. Although the hotel has 100+ rooms, the staff made a point to know our names and make us feel as though we were staying in an intimate hotel. The food at their restaurants is the best in Chiang Mai. And to be served in a cool setting with the best possible service, it kept us returning meal after meal.

The small gift put in our rooms each day was a special touch.

The concierge can help you book any activity you are looking for in the area. They strive to only recommend the best.

We didn't want to leave and can hardly wait for our next visit.

    D2 was life saver!

    from bells14

If you like the W New York you will love the D2! That is what it reminded us of...D2 was the best hotel and a life saver after booking in another hotel near there. After staying in a mosquito infested room for one night at supposably a comprable hotel we were moved to the D2- what a life saver! D2 was clean, the people were helpful and friendy- first English speakers we had encountered after a week in Thailand, and the room was 4 stars. The location is perfect too- you just walk right out the door and you are at the Night Bazaar. We would have had a horrible time in Chang Mai if it weren't for the D2- we just wish the first night in the other hotel would never have happened. The other hotel room was also more expensive- so the D2 is real reasonable. The manager greeted us when we arrived and continued to check on us every morning during breakfast. The bar staff were great and even if you don't stay here you should try their lemongrass and ginger martinis! We loved the D2 and we are so glad it just happened to be open. Even with them finishing up construction it was so much quieter than the other place too.. As you can see we highly recommend it.

The D2 Hotel in Chiang Mai is PHENOMENAL!

    from anonymous

D2 is a phenomenal hotel - maybe the best hotel I've ever stayed in! The hotel is simply gorgeous. It's architecture and decor is very sleek/modern and, at the same time, very comfortable and inviting. I was struck by the incredible attention to detail throughout the hotel. Not only is the hotel beautiful, but it's extremely well located in Chiang Mai. In fact, we were staying at another hotel and moved to D2 in part because of it's location in the heart of the city. Just outside D2 is the wonderful "Night Bazaar" in Chiang Mai. Every night, vendors line the street with everything from jewelry to DVDs to Thai silk to wood sculptures. The most wonderful thing about D2 was surely the fantastic staff. They are incredibly dedicated and will do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. They jumped at the chance to assist us with planning sightseeing itineraries, recommend restaurants, and make travel arrangements. And all with a smile! I can't say enough good things about D2. If you stay there, you won't regret it!

    Great hotel!

    from BOSTON222

We spent 3 nights at D2 and it was simply phenomenal. Even though the hotel does not officially open until Feb 06 (so the pool, spa, and business center wasn't open yet), the hotel has several rooms open now at very reasonable rates. The hotel lobby, restaurant, and rooms are incredibly luxurious and trendy (much like the top boutique hotels in NYC, Miami, and San Francisco). The service is absolutely top notch - the staff is genuinely dedicated to helping guests have an exceptional stay and spent hours with us trying to help us with plans, etc.. The location is also terrific - right in the middle of town next to the night bazaar. If you go to Chang Mai, don't miss the opportunity to stay at D2! And, make sure to go to the elephant camp - the highlight of our trip!
