      Two contrasting parts of today's ride. After a boring few miles through Yaxley just south of Peterborough, I had my last experience of the pleasant and easy riding on quiet lanes of the flat fens. I saw nobody except just south of Holme where a group of villagers were watching the Royal Scotsman parked on the adjacent rail line as the engine took on water from a fire tender.

      ... the sticks on the edge of Birmingham on my own and didn't understand a word of the calculus lecture which was covered off in the first two hours of the stats module!! Sarah got me into the Halls of Residence along with the rest and explained calculus and it was all go from there. She married a fellow undergrad and they have three great kids - amazing to think their kids are now the age we were when we were at Uni. We took morning tea in the sunshine ...
