    Today's entry consists of me having a rather spectacular crash off a bike....I haven't ridden one in nearly 20 years and put way too much faith in that old saying 'it's just like riding a bike, you never forget'.....but more on that later. We joined a full day tour of the Mekong Delta today. Our destination was nearly 3 hours from HCMC. We then arrived at our homestay where we stay in the upstairs of a larger house that a multi generation family lives in.     ... and collected toffees in a plastic bag using a bare flame. It was quite mesmerising to watch and made you think that before mechanisation, this is how all crafts/production was carried out. Further on we saw how popped rice was made as well as a noodle type snack a bit like rice crispy squares. Before leaving we were able to sample these locally produced foods and ingredients - further adding to the full sensory experience.

    ... river and green trawler lights reflecting over the surface were a small consolation. We headed out and shared some beers and a goat meat and noodle hotpot with our guides. The goat was tough but tasty, and the beer was cheap. A singing candy karaoke scooter pulled up. The driver plugged his mic into the speakers strapped to the back and serenaded each table in turn. You bought his nut filled tubes of candy to make him go away. Sensing our accommodation reservations Mr Hong treated us. ...

    ... visiting and exploring. There were 4 main islands, Coconut Island, Dragon Island, Turtle Island, and Phoenix Island. The purpose of the trip was to observe the local people/economy that is based completely on coconut and Banana farming. Excitedly we boarded a small long tail boat that would take us across the Mekong river passing by Coconut island and Dragon island.
