Bienvenue en Suisse (Welcome to Switzerland)

... control recently has broken down, this was the perfect sign to follow, where I planed to cross the border to Switzerland.

Just arrived in late afternoon to Aosta, I was not only already entered to the italian part of the alps but also to the point of good bye. Here I decided not to spend another night in Italy and crossed the border to my homecountry Switzerland a hour later at Calle del Gran San Bernardo.

The Matterhorn

... the casualties of the Matterhorn.
Zermatt itself is tiny, with only electric taxis. It is much colder than Lauterbrunnen even though it's on the border of Italy.
Switzerland is strange. It has no language of its own. In Bern, Lauterbrunnen and Zermatt they speak German but in Montreux they speak French, even the train announcements change languages. It gets confusing, so I just stick to greeting people in English most of the time. When I had arrived here I was fuming a bit because I ...

... deep snow up there for a while till my feet started getting cold. Kathleen hadnt come up but I was so glad I did! Also this place is where they filmed one of the James Bond films.. his majestys service. Cool! After this I made my way down the 3 gondolas to at the bottom. Then took a bus to a place called Trümmelbach falls. Its a series of 10 waterfalls that are partly inside the mountains. Over the years they have carved out corkscrew holes ...

Not Interlaken

... Bill said how elated he was with our surroundings, and I can’t disagree either. We were right up close to the three famous mountains of the region (Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger), Europe’s highest train station, and the place where 007 movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed. After gradually gaining 1000m in altitude, we found ourselves at the top of a very ...

Switzing It Up

... Alps, which are the biggest and covered with snow. The largest, is called Jungfru, which is 4107 m high. The autumn leaves are also turning here, so it is a beautiful mosaic of bright reds and yellows spotting the green alp trees. The entire hike, I heard the music of waterfalls and cow/sheep bells. The area has 72 waterfalls. After coming back to Lauterbrunnen, I visited the ...

Day 5 - Grand St Bernard

... bit was unfortunately being resurfaced which made progress rather slower and more uncomfortable than we would have liked. At the Italian/Swiss border we met a couple of Lotus drivers in a party of 30 on a 60th anniversary tour to Stelvio. "My Sister went out with a bloke who had a briskoda sticker on his car, it was a red one and his name was Sam". Anyone ...

... can be without climbing with an icepick. So needless to say it was absolutely breath taking. I was very surprised to see how much the high altitude afftected my body. We came back down the mountain around one and walked through town a bit and then we decide to go see the Trummelbach falls. This is a series of Waterfalls that are inside of the mountain and no one knows where the ...

Lauterbrunnen Return

... still a beautiful sight.  We reluctantly headed off again towards Lauterbrunnen. After a bit of driving we began hitting some familiar territory, which was pretty cool to say that we had familiar territory in Switzerland.  We reached some familiar passes that we had driven in days before, and met Mike, Marla, and Nate  atop St. Gottard (or San Gottardo) pass.  We enjoyed a Bratwurst from a vendor and had a look at the view of the area.  Nate ...

... through the mountains to get away and ambush the enemy... Goin up to the Swiss Alps today yeah!! Walk to the clog train, start going up a huge mountain, the scenery starts with green trees and grass and ends with spectacular white mountains with us above the clouds. On the way up the train stops twice, once to pick passengers up, the 2nd is to let us ...
