Today we decided to walk up (rather than ride the funicular) to the 700 year old Universidad in the upper town. What seemed like a thousand steps later, we were at the top of old town. Lisbon's university is larger, but this one is more respected and has 25,000 students, making Coimbra a busy student town. I'm having a problem with the food here. It's settling around my waist! :P Argh. They eat a lot of carbs. Where breakfast is provided, it's heavy crusty rolls and jam. Lunch ... heavy crusty rolls or toast with ham and white cheese. Supper is optional crusty rolls, and huge portions of fish (especially cod) every way you can imagine, beef, or pork, all usually in a sauce, with potatoes (boiled, fried, potato chips). We took the bus from Nazare to Coimbra. Beautiful new bus, but I found it hot (Roger didn't - weird, I know) and was stripping off layers and fanning myself to keep from passing out and/or being sick. Odd for me, as I never get motion sickness.
