We slept in rather late this morning, and we could blame jet lag coming from Scotland or it might just be going to bed late last night. Sari and Ímer were long gone, they had started work hours ago. Jasmin was still at home though, school had finished a few days ago, and she made us breakfast.

Our original plan for our day in Helsinki before flying North to Kemi was to meet Maria's friends Anne and Ivan from Spain, but their kids were sick. As it ...

After that we got into bed. Dad had to zip us into our sleeping bags. We also had to go into a fleece bag. Then I looked ...

It's such a great feeling when you wake up thinking you have been asleep for days, your batteries are recharged and you're ready for's not so great once you realise you have only been asleep for two hours and it's midnight. Jet lag is a curse for a lot of long haul travellers and there was no exception here - after seven hours, I had counted all the sheep in New Zealand and sleep was no closer, so time to get ...

      Kemi (smelly)

A travel blog entry by rutlander on Mar 10, 2008

Kemi was REALLY EXPENSIVE. REALLY REALLY EXPENSIVE. ALMOST REDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. It was rather smelly here because of the massive pulp factories and it was also raining the second day I was there so everything started to melt and it was just slush everywhere. The 'Ice Hotel' was alright for what it was but it really didn't compare to the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi. Not my greatest ...
