... decided on a menu, Pork Loin in a mushroom cream sauce, Chanterelle Mushroom Risotto, and a mixed green salad, we spent the early afternoon shopping for our ingredients. Returning with our bounty, we set about prepping everything. It was going to be a dinner for 12-13, so we went about our tasks with a purpose, aided by an odd glass or two or three of a South African blend of Sauvignon Blanc and C******nay.

Dinner went quite well, and it seemed ...

... opened the museum to the public in 1993 ( wolkoff-house-museum/). We had a pleasant visit and the docent gave us free run of the place. After, our visit, Hoki and Helena went back to collect her mother and were going to visit the area where her mother grew up, about 40 km away. ... 8217;s work definitely showed an excellent grasp of light. I was very impressed. When I told the lady who ran the coffee shop of our former relationship, she was somewhat taken aback, but insisted I write in Terttu’s guest book.

Helena had organized an evening boat cruise (apparently the last of the season) on Lake Saima with a side trip through a lock on the Saima Canal. We had agreed to meet at 17:30 so Hoki and I made our way ...

        The Wolkoff Farm

It was a short drive from the Lappeenranta train station to my ex-mother-in-law's farmhouse about 6 km outside of town, where Hoki and I would be staying for the better part of a week. At 87 years old, Aune Wolkoff had been a farmer most of her life. Born Aune Hostila in the village of Suomeniemi, 40 km north of Lappeenranta, she married Nikolai Wolkoff in 1947 and they had three children, Helena, Markku and Raija. Aune had lived ...
