Viñales is a cute rural town with a real community feel. Our Casa owners got together to cook us a feast of lobster, fish, chicken, vegetables and salad and was one of the best meals on the trip (the other in Cienfuegos). And the cool change in weather was a welcome change. On the way into the town we visited a tobacco drying house with animals galore! Chickens, turkeys, dogs, ducks, tree rats and cows. However, a couple hours later it was over and we could walk to the centre where we met the German couple for dinner. ... Unesco World Heritage site. They glow in the afternoon sunshine and there’s this wonderful fertile red soil all around their base. Modest tobacco farmhouses litter the scenery between here and there and we’re reminded we’re in cigar heaven. Cuba is renown worldwide for it’s tobacco and the best stuff is grown right here. Local exploitation of that fact has emerged in weird little tourist traps like local leather-faced farmers sitting outside prominent ...
