... I managed to buy my ticket to China with a return in mid-January. Then I fly back the first of March and stay until next July. I also bought a one-way to Dallas to see my family and another to Houston after 10 days in Dallas. I need a bit of ocean time before I go to China, and I have a couple of family members in Bastrop, Tx. that I want to see.

... Middle Kingdom." I have read about China since I was a kid, fully agree with the philosophies of Taoism and Buddhism, love the people I have met from there and respect their ancient culture immensely.

But still: I don't know that much since I haven't been on the ground and living there. I bet I have much more to learn--and learning is what I enjoy!

... Learned this hotdog trick from the "Pho" Vietnamese restaurants down in Hawaii.

Here are a few pics of the local mountains that I took from my front porch, which came out nicely due to the sun and cloud event we had this evening.

*Update* May 28th, woke up in the morning and the ground had 1/2 of snow and the mountains were covered..... WTF?

... overseas since I started teaching back in '97 when I had three kids to raise by myself. Now that the youngest moved out this year, I am suffering from extreme loneliness and facing the "empty nest" syndrome in a foreign town with few friends is bringing me down to tell you the truth. ... dismayed to find the only hot drink they had was coffee, I eyed the menu board and was interested to see about 30 different milkshake flavors, hmmm must be their specialty?!
