There is a lot of history in Berlin, and there is so much to see. On the first day we went to see the Shell-Haus that was designed by Emil Fahrenkamp. It took two years to construct and it was open in 1932. What I found interesting was the waveform, which goes down a level as I walked along the edge of the building.
Weather: Bloody hot.
The Obamas are in Berlin so the Cornfords decided to hit the S Bahn and find our way to the palaces and estate of the Prussian rulers in Potsdam. And did we say "it's bloody hot" even at 7.00 when we left home. Proudly, we U Bahned and S Bahned our way to Potsdam. Then we walked to Sanssouci with the uni students (there are 17000 at the uni on the site there) to look at ...
... of the few buildings demolished during the war. From there we continued through former East Germany to the site of Hitler's bunker. This is the site where he took his own life. It has since been filled in, and is now a parking lot. We finished up by walking to the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate. I forgot where in the sequence, but we all visited the Jewish victims memorial.
