... the pool. Later on we took a walk to Kata Beach which is about a 15 min walk from the hotel. We strolled along the beach to the end and grabbed something to eat. The beach is really nice and there was a small wave breaking down at the far end much to John's delight, plus there were some people on the beach hiring out surfboards. Saturday 13 June...
We woke with only slightly fuzzy heads, packed and headed over to Railay beach via long tail boat. We arrived to the lovely west beach but had to head over to the east beach/bog in search of budget accommodation.
With a recommended place in mind we headed up the hill to check it out. It was totally gross and filthy so remembering we had some hotel cash-back from our flight bookings we booked into our nicest place since starting ...

... mosques quite a few malls and of course road side stalls. There was a huge entrance to a Country Club too which looked very upmarket and quite a variance in styles of homes from pretty much a basic dwelling to a mansion and everything in between.

I was surprised how Westernised the town of Phuket was with it's malls with the ever present chains such as MacDonald’s, Subway, KFC etc … I even saw a sign for Tesco !!


Our adventure is coming to an end.

... beaches have huge empty spaces on the roadside of the beach. We were told that these areas used to be filled with tables and chairs and food stalls, but when military rule came in last year, a new law was passed which banned chairs on the beach as they said it made the beach untidy. Hence this large area set aside for this purpose now more or less stands empty.

We returned to the hotel for a swim. The pool here ...

... path between the jungle leaded to the beach, and the last part of it a pretty tough one if you're wearing flip flops! But nothing like the reward after taking the hard way, when we arrived, a bay of chrisyaline waters was waiting for us!

After swimming and sunbathing, a delicious meal and a Shinga at the only restaurant. Service in Thailand is definitely not the best. We tried to order at the bar, but were sent to a table. Waited for a waiter to take ...
