... get much more American than that. I will try to
update everyday since we do not have a lot of connection to home
otherwise. I am giving everyone on our trip access to the blog so y'all
just don't forget to entitle your posts with your name!

Off to an Interesting Start

... Musical 3 soundtrack and 2 Hanna Montana CDs. Such entertainment! The girls also amused themselves by watching old home videos from when I was a kid... Go figure.

Tomorrow it's off to Selma, AL, to see important sites from the struggle for Civil Rights - we'll actually get to drive the route that Dr. King marched from Selma to Montgomery, then stay the night in Montgomery tomorrow.

Impending Excitment and Lack of Sleep

... my mind is constantly rambling to itself about the possibilities that lie ahead, and I can't keep focused on anything. I should probably be working, but my mind just keeps traveling back to the places I have lived in Europe and wondering how much they have changed over the years.

I decided to start this blog a little earlier than my trip so I can share some of what is going through my over-stimulated ...

Mississippi Petrified Forest

The Mississi Petrified Forest is located in hills and ravines hollowed out by nature during the past century. The size of the petrified logs indicates that as living trees, these stone giants were one hundred feet tall, and perhaps a thousand or more years old. Nature changes this forest each passing year.

I was glad to turn the vehicle northbound in Baton Rouge as the eastern sky was blinding. One stop at the Mississippi state sign for tourism sake and we were heading toward Natchez on the river. Maps told us there were scores of Antebellum "Pre-Civil War" Mansions dotting the moss draped trees, so we pulled over for a gander. The huge Dixie trees were so stoic. Hard to think that the same shade covering the truck as we ...

... cozy and I wash my shorts that had salmon spilled on them during the day. The fellow, Gary, has a tool shop that he tows behind the diesel pusher bus. They carry a kayak and the tandem bike, and they keep a travel blog [to be added here]. After a bowl of hot cornmeal in condensed milk, I go to their bus and chat for a bit about travel, the the ...

what a beautiful ride today

We rode on the Long Leaf trail today. It was a historic rail line that is now a 40 mile bike trail. We were able to ride without any traffic to deal with and this trail is a very beautiful place. then we rode another 53 miles into Jackson, Mississippi where we had a meet and greet at the United Blood Services. There were only a few people, but the radio, tv and newspaper people were ...

... holiday spot. Sun, beaches, Greek food, and Turkish coffee, nice. The little town where we are is a little touristy, and there isn't much besides hotels, postcard shops, or pub/restaurants. Don't drink the tap water, it's salty; and be careful crossing the street: they drive on the left. One day, Nate went to the capital, Nicosia. The capital is interesting because it is split down the middle between the Greek ...
