China is beautiful, but in too many places, it has been overburdened and poisoned. To be frank, I think the problem is so serious that it cannot be fixed. Chinese people love their country with a passion that is sometimes scary, but they have very nearly killed it. That is more than enough reason to feel sad.

... From the Hanging Monastery we shared a taxi with an Italian-Australian couple to Datong. Near Datong we visited the famous Yungang Caves, a site a bit similar to the Longmen Caves, although the Yungang Caves look more like caves. The sculpted Buddhas here looked grand en beautiful and we enjoyed the site so much, that is was too late to take the afternoon bus to Beijing, as was our plan, so we stayed another night in Datong. ... day at the beach. We got some beer in a bag and headed to the beach at around 10am. There's really not much to say about this day. It was a day at the beach! Basking in the sun interspersed with playing in the ocean, or being buried and made into a beautiful mermaid...what more is to be said? All in all, Qingdao was an excellent trip. We had problems with our hostel, but that aside it couldn't have been any better! I want to go back!!!
