My Bag goes a travelling

... with the baggage guys trying to locate it. There was nothing for it but to go into town and check in to a room. Í had all my valuables, but had to spend the evening in my sweaty bus clothes and hope it would be there in the morning. Luckily it was. *breathe a sigh of relief* - if that was Asia i don´t think i would have seen it again.

Veracruz is a sweaty little sea side ...

Moved.

... for it.

I cannot express how amazing the show was last night. Because Veracruz was my advance team city, I was able to watch! I haven't seen a show since it came to Montevideo in the '90s and all I have to say is WOW. I was blown away. I kept thinking, "I do this? Really!?" I truly believe that anyone who has ever had a doubt in mankind needs to watch a show. Your beliefs will be completely and utterly reversed. I was so incredibly moved and ...

Lessons Learned

... was. I have learned so much in the 2 1/2 weeks that I have spent here in Veracruz. I hope that these lessons stay with me for the rest of my travels and the rest of my life.

Yesterday we arrived at our host drop-off facility at 7:30 a.m. as it was our second community impact day and we were supposed to be heading to Xalapa (the capital city of Veracruz...I've been there a few times since my arrival for promotions reasons) to plant trees in a jungle. However, we were informed that ...

Wow. What A Week.

... and pancakes :) But it's all about adjusting the culture, right?!

After breakfast (which was around 12:30 p.m.) we got ready for the day, ran some errands and went to the family's home for a typical Veracruz dinner. It was absolutely scrumptious! We had fresh baked rolls, chicken drummies in a dark salsa, and Spanish rice. For dessert, I introduced the puppy chow that I made this weekend. The only difference was that my puppy chow ...

Living for the moment

... in our school. That week in the Montevideo High School was one of the - for lack of a better word - weirdest weeks I had ever experienced. No one had any motivation to do anything, much less anything scholastic. People were silent as they walked in the halls. You could hear a pin drop in the cafeteria during lunch. Eyes were glued to the television every minute of the day as the news broadcast was displayed. Minds were thinking of the student and his family. For me, tennis ...

Soli Deo Gloria (Concordia's Motto)

... cake! Turns out he had a surprise party ready for me - with cake and ice cream - and was pushing so hard for me to go to his townhome because all of my friends were there. They had been waiting for almost an hour! I'm so lucky :)

I enjoyed that trip down memory lane and I hope you did too! Have a great weekend everyone! And remember, if it's almost your birthday, you should probably go along with whatever your friends ask you to do. You never know what's in store! :)

There´s Something About Mary

... made where everyone was found dead? Would we be a headline if we stayed here?? Is this where the banditos take our money??? (Those imaginary banditos that keep Paul awake some nights!)

Luckily, this was not the case, but we were both thinking the place was the perfect site for "murder by the beach!" when we went to sleep (back to the whole...The Hills Have Eyes movie paranoia...). It was actually the nicest, most relaxing ...

Total emersion is the best method

... can they even drink their own water. The surveyors from Mexico City can drink the water from Mexico city, but they have to be just as careful not to drink the water out of the pipes in a small town like Tuxpan. Most of the large restaraunts that take credit cards have caught onto people not drinking the water and they use purified water for serving. No Montezuma´s revenge yet. In fact... it´s kind of the opposite (if you know how I travel). About the worst thing I got was some kanker ...

Veracrucian by Design

Once you've got a load to carry, the last thing you want to do is travel. You want to get where you’re going as fast as you can. So I bypass all the little stops along the way, even the big stop in Mexico City, opting instead for the coastal route through Veracruz. I didn’t ...
