Accommodation

Hotel La Siesta, Acuna No. 9, Tel: (01 842) 422-0374. Their current rates were 300 + 400 peso for 1 or 2 persons. The small, en-suite rooms come with cable TV but are a little overpriced for what's on offer.
Parras De La Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico amazingjourneysFor Friday dinner, the visiting brothers and I, head over to Señora Clara Morenos. Her son, Alvero Moreno is in the work whom we also met in Chile. Her husband just had a stroke, but also came to convention. MartaVeloz came over to visit as well. Fidel Veloz, her son, lives in the Baja. Saturday we all gathered at Señora Anitas for lunch. She worked as a ...
Torreon, Mexico tstewy... also the home of many professing woman (around 20). There are no other professing males. The Garza family moved here from Monterrey two years ago to provide an open home. We had lunch with Sra. Lichas de Martinez, early meeting and potluck supper at Angelina Salinez. The friends prayed and a few of the workers took part. We are back to Rodolfo and Rachel ...
Torreon, Northern Mexico, Mexico tstewy... home in Ecuador: sunny blue skies with dry 86 degree weather. Nice to look at none the less... We step down into the tarmac and walked to customs, were once again, I was "randomly selected" for luggage check. The Mexican "random selector" was quite funny actually. It looks like a trafic light on a post. It has two lights: red and green" It has a little button (like the ones you push when you want to cross the street) that when you ...
Leon, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico baratier... at the clouds around one, I'd say it was snowing). The trip to Mexico City was beautiful, as our route took us through the mountains. We could see the smog that hangs over Mexico City from a distance and we never did get a good vista of it, although it sprawls throughout the valley. The smog was irritating to our throats and eyes, and I was glad we just passed through. It took about an hour to get ...
Queretaro, Mexico mbwatrous... off, walking around the city centre, up and down the dozens of alleyways. The crowd follow the musicians, drinking, dancing and singing along the way. The musicians occasionally stop in squares so that people can catch up, refill their drinks, and dance like crazy. It's such a great and unique party. that night we trail behind the crowd and go to a local Cantina to have some more Mexican beers. The Cantina is filled with locals and a two piece playing traditional ...
Zacatecas, Mexico alawlor... but there was no need. The main square in town was full of a few thousand people. They had a live Mexican band and lots of fireworks. As midnight approached more and more people were lighting huge sparklers. You had to watch out so that your hair or clothing was not catching on fire in the crowds. They have a different celebration were the children receive gifts, like toys and clothing. It is more like Christmas as we know it at home, at least for the kids. It is on January ...
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico audreyandjackI guess I´m not much of a writer. We´ve been in Guanajuato a month now! This is my 5th week of classes in Spanish. I´m learning a lot but realize how much there is to know to speak another language. Comprehension comes long before the ability of the tongue. And being able to understand these rapid spaking people is another matter all together! One on one isn´t too bad. Guanajuato is a ...
Guanajuato, Mexico sue-for-peace... the carriages watching the views slide by, munching on bread and cakes from a bakery in Los Mochis (great foresight on my part the day before - buying water and a packet of crisps on the train cost about 5 quid!!) and listening to Sara McLachlan, Tom Waits (and a bit of my country collection - it seemed appropriate!). We stopped at one place for about 15 minutes - time to stretch legs, wander round a small collection of stalls, and ...
Creel, Mexico sheppard... first film of the journey that wasn't in Spanish. Having wound our way up into the mountains, we pulled into Zacatecas around 6pm. We transferred on to a local bus for the town centre and pretty much guessed where to get off (having already earmarked the hotel we wanted to stay at - courtesy of our trusty guidebook). Luckily we weren`t too far off the mark and didn't have to walk far before we spotted the Maria Conchita Hotel. Whilst I thought ...
