We arrived at the Airport in Edmonton nice and early, only to be told that we were on “standby” and that we may not be on this flight!! My bite of the Big Apple
Sitting here on the Amtrak train from NYC to Washington DC, I thought I may as well start up a new blog. That, and I left my writing utensils in NY and so need somewhere to keep record other than my journal. There's also free wifi on the train - sweeeet! New York; what can I say? All in all it was amazing. The sites, the atmosphere the chaos. All …

Historical Traveler Reviews Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan New York City
Under par
We stayed here on September28, 2003. I booked on the club floor thinking it would be a nicer room with more amenities. Before leaving for a show we found that there was no mini bar in the room despite being given a key to one. I was told that when the room was remodeled, the mini bars would not fit the rooms. When asked why I was given a key I was told, "the front desk always messes that up". The employee said he would "bring a mini-bar to the room", which sounded like a fine option, however I never got a mini bar or heard from them again. My electronic key did not work twice. Very inconvenient when you're in a hurry and then have to go to the lobby and wait in a line. Employees were not rude, but were certainly not friendly. The price was pretty good however at just $228.00 (including all taxes) per night for mid town. Room was very average, somewhat dated looking even though they claimed our room had been redone. Bathroom was dated and there was very very low water pressure.
Average
Hi,
We stayed at the crowne plaza from Aug 9th till the 18th. There was 4 of us The Crown plaza is at the center of everything, nothing beats the location if you are looking to stay in Times Square. It is very pleasing to look at as well. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The hallways smelled stale, it was strange staying at such a well known hotel only to find the hallways and rooms 3star standard.
The rooms are small. We had asked for a view, which we got. I was not impressed nor that disappointed. It is hard to judge the hotel, since we were there during the black out, we had a better experience then others, our hotel card keys still worked, so that was good, we didn't get in hot water for 2 days, nobody did cause of the black out, we were not impressed, we talked to the hotel manager and he said that there was nothing he could do since it was the same problem with most of New York City, he did however give us a voucher to breakfast at the hotel, I can't remember a better meal I had in so long. The breakfast at the restaraunt was excellent. The noise, be prepared you hear all kinds of noise all the time no matter what hotel you stay in. Overall, I would try another hotel. But the location was great and so was the staff, the rooms were just too small for us. If you have never been to New York before, places to go shopping- SOHO, and Chinatown. Restaurants-for some reason every restaurant we went to had the best food. Food and shopping is the best in NYC. Great location, somewhat disappointing service
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza for four nights while I was visiting New York on my own for a theater package. I picked the Crowne Plaza because of its location right in the middle of Time Square. If you want to see the many sights of the city, see a Broadway show, or simply stay right in the heart of Time Square, the Crowne Plaza is a great choice.
The hotel itself is beautiful, though a bit disappointing. When I arrived, I told the person at the front desk I had a voucher from the travel agency for a single room. (It was even written on the ticket I presented her.) The room key she gave me was for a double room. I was eventually moved to a room with a single king-sized bed, like I was supposed to have. Unfortunately, it was nearby the elevator, and I could hear it moving up and down all day. Made it a little hard to sleep sometimes, listening to the elevator all night. I was also a bit disappointed that the wood furniture in the room I had was cracking, and looked like it needed to be replaced. The room was comfortable, it just needed to be updated a little.
The hotel's restaurant, too, was a bit disappointing. The food was mediocre, and nowhere near worth the price they were charging for it.
Fortunately, there are plenty of good restaurants right outside the hotel, so you're better off eating somewhere else.
Despite some problems, it was a nice experience. There's a great bar, plenty of seating areas for socializing, complete with great views of Time Square, and the concierge was extremely friendly and useful in helping me find a great steak restaurant nearby that I plan to eat at again the next time I visit the city.
Would I stay at the Crowne Plaza again? Probably not. Aside from the location, there's nothing really here that you can't find better at another hotel. It's not a bad stay, overall, just not what I expected.
Ideal location
The Crowne Plaza is the ideal location if you are interested in being in Times Square. The rates were also very reasonable. The staff was friendly and the rooms were nice. One problem was a broken escalator three of the four days we were there. It was a problem because that escalator was the quickest way to get from the first floor to the second floor where the lobby was located. Due to this, the elevators also had longer-than-average waits. The other problem was the air conditioner in the room. It did work, but putting the dials at high and max-cool barely did the job. The highly-touted health club also charged for visiting depending on the time of day it was and what type of room the guest was staying in. I would stay at this hotel again for the location and the rates.
Great rooms and centrally located
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Manhattan last week for business. I received a lovely and clean room. The staff was helpful and friendly.
This hotel is right smack in the middle of Times Square. Great location and centrally located in the Theater District. I would definitely stay here again.
Great Location
The Crowne Plaza has the most amazing location for anyone who wants to stay central and safe in NYC. WIthin 10 minutes of checking in, we were out in the heart of Manhattan, exploring all the sites only ever seen on television. The hotel is a good quality hotel with a really nice bar & restaurant and the friendly staff who all couldn't wait to help (apart from one of the concierge who was determined to send us to a cosy family run Italian for dinner, despite our request for somewhere funky, young and happening!) All in all a great hotel with the best loaction possible if you're looking to explore NYC or just wanting to party into the night.
Great stay at the Crowne Plaza
I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Manhattan in April 2003 for 6 nights. I booked an Executive Room as there were four adults staying together and hoped that they'd be a bit bigger than the standard rooms. The room was ok, not as nice as I thought it would be as an "executive", but clean and comfortable for 4 of us with a reasonable size bathroom. Self service Breakfast was available free in the Executive Lounge (on the 48th floor) which was good value (toast, croissants, muffins, fruit, cereal) and a nice way to start the day as it had a great view of the city. The location of the hotel was fantastic - right in the middle of everything in Times Square. Staff seemed ok. Overall, an average hotel but fabulous location. I would stay here again.
Excellent Position
Had visited this hotel three years ago and found it excellent but staff not as helpful as then and rooms look a bit tired. Bed is very comfortable though. Excellent position for mid town Manhattan. We booked a rate including breakfast but beware as breakfast vouchers not always available and very embarressing being turned away from the restaurant on successive days while having to get the front desk to check we were entitled to breakfast and then call through to the restaurant.Security is pretty good though and views of New York great.
Great hotel
This was an excellent hotel for NYC. Location is wonderful. Prices are fair for location and and good clean accomodations. Staff was helful at all times. Restaurant food was good but a little overpriced.
Not bad--but some problems
The hotel is not bad. The room was okay but the bathroom was somewhat worn. The beds were comfortable. The problems were (1) When we arrived, the heat did not work. Maintenance came up promptly and found the knob to control the heat/AC was missing. I had noticed it was missing but didn't know it was supposed to be there. Anyway, the problem was fixed fairly quickly. (2) The card key did not work on my room on 3 separate occasions. Each time they came and looked at it. The last time there was a huge line at the front desk and they wouldn't help me. I stopped a security guy who was then rude to me. This was quite an inconvenience to go through this 3 times after a long day of sightseeing.
