...the plane arrived...i waited for a shuttle..i looked around..i saw people around me...i knew i was in Philadelphia...

...definitely a city...a very busy city. Downtown, people just honk, walk the streets, buy foods from the side of the road from little carts and so much more I am sure. I know for sure that I need more time here to see everything this city has to offer. BUT the most important this is that I got to see the Philadelphia Museum of Art which is know for having a ...

Great new beds at the Crowne Plaza!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just returned from a three night stay at the Crowne Plaza Center City for a conference. I loved the rooms, they recently upgraded their beds and provide you a great sleep kit. When I entered my room, there were 7 pillows on my bed and two in the closet. The bed linens were all white and soft. In the sleep kit, they provide lavender linen spray, a sleep CD (you can use in the nice CD alarm clock), an eye mask and ear plugs. The ear plugs are nice because of your typical city noise, sirens and so forth that windows just don't block out. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to leave!

My corner room was a little small, and there was an inexplicable 2 inch gap underneath my door (I used the plethora of pillows to cover it). I also got trapped in the stairwell, although I know in some hotels the stairwells are fire exit only, I saw no sign and was looking forward to the exercise. Well, there is a sign, it is on a clear sticker in 10 point font.

Overall, the room was great, very clean, nice size bathroom. The bed was the best part. The gym was pretty good too, with a view of the pool. The meeting facilities and food were very good. The computer center consists of two computers, but I could usually get on one with no trouble.

The concierge was very friendly, but never ate out, so couldn't really give you much info on restaurants except for hand you a generic sheet of suggestions. He was great at giving directions. The location of the hotel is great, I really enjoyed walking around Center City, down to the South St. area, and to the historic district. I felt very safe the whole time. I hope to return to Philly to sightsee and will definitely stay at the Crowne Plaza if I can get a deal.

Horrible Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just spent three nights at this hotel for a conference. It has got to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. I received a discounted rate because I was attending a conference. Come to find out I only saved twenty dollars. These rooms are not worth $149 before taxes which I payed. Check in was easy and I was placed in a corner room. I thought like other hotels corner room must be big. To my surprise the room was maybe 10' x 10'. It was so small that I stubbed my toe on the desk just getting out of bed. I travel a lot for work and I have never seen a hotel this bad. I have never stayed in a Crown Plaza and due to this bad impression I will never stay in one again. I have stayed in Philly, payed less to stay and have been in great hotels. There was this awful smell like formaldehyde in the hallways. I advise you stay clear of this hotel. Staff was friendly though.

Very Average

from JoePizza
Stayed at this hotel this past weekend using the GoPhila Promotion. The hotel needs a renovation ASAP. Check in went smoothly and front desk personnel were fairly nice. Upon entering the room we were shocked at the small size of the double beds. All of us woke up the next morning with some very severe back pain. The beds had no bounce to them and were as hard as cardboard. Just plain awful and I will be following up with the management there as I have stayed at other Crowne Plaza's and never experienced this before. The other major problem was the bathroom. The sink was outside of the bathroom which was annoying and worst, the bathroom itself was so small that anyone who may have been 6 feet or so would not have been able to use it. This needs to be addressed and it is NOT a comfortable shower or bathroom experience due to the lack of space. The carpet was worn and after maid service on the first day, I came back and my blanket has cigarette burns on it. Another turn off. No Showtime or HBO, just STARZ.The parking here is $28 (free with the GoPhila promotion) so keep that in mind, but you will pay at most downtown Philly hotels. Overall, this place seemed like a Howard JOhnson or Holiday Inn and I would not recommend.

Standard/Average Hotel in Center City Phili

Good, moderate quality hotel in Philadelphia. Nothing special - but iit's a good three star hotel in the center of Philadelphia. The staff is very pleasant and helpful, The rooms are fairly standard.

Better deals and hotels elsewhere

from Freqtourist
Stayed here for overnight in the City via gift certificate. Had read that it was a converted holiday inn. Really just changed the signs but looks like no furhter improvements. Rooms were the traditional holiday inn layout (i.e. sink outside bathroom). Furnishings were aged as was even the cable/TV/movie options. Hallway carpets were not only old but frayed. Toilet backed up on first use. Looks like they have deferred even the most needed of maintenance. Lobby is small and restaurant is also aged, not like others in the chain I have seen like the one in San Francisco's Club Quarters. Only upside is that the employees were very polite and helpful.

If you want to stay in the city there are better options near Rittenhouse Square, the Convention Center, and Old City/riverfront.

Very Pleasant!

from VACOUPLETRAVELS
After reading all the reviews, we really tried to change hotels, but because we booked a non-refundable internet rate, it was not possible. WELL, to our surprise, our stay was quite pleasant. The parking situation was very convenient, and when we checked into the hotel, the staff was very helpful. The room was clean, towels were crisp, and we had a robe in our room. Although the room was small, our friends who had a room on another floor, had a very large room. Our room was cleaned the next morning, and in a timely manner. We really enjoyed the bar downstairs, because of the happy hour, and the convenience. We ordered room service, and it came at the exact time that we requested. Everything about our stay was nice, and we would definitely recommend it.

Only of you get a great deal

Who says this hotel is 4star? this is a 3star hotel with cheap motel like lobby (actually, there is practically no lobby), scary parking facility (even the vallet area) I gave above avg. rating only because staffs were extremely courteous and helpful, and we've got great internet offer for a deluxe room. Location is good, deluxe room was great (especially after passing through the scary vallet area and lobby), club floor lounge is a disaster, but staffs make up for things thay lacks in someways.

Warning - Don't Stay Here

from A TripAdvisor Member
Full disclosure: I attended a conference at the hotel, and was not a guest. However, bad service and imprudence were clearly evident. First, on a late October afternoon, the air conditioning was running full blast; we felt like we were in a meat locker rather than a hotel meeting room. One server assigned to oversee the buffet table repeatedly bumped people out of the way to do her tasks, and then aggressively removed plates before most people were finished. Another worker, rapidly pushing a wide cart down the hallway, made no effort to ensure I wasn't hit by it, and I would have been if I didn't dodge quickly to the right. All of the other workers I saw there seemed to have been picked from a pool labeled 'unemployable.'The food was pretty bad and the place wasn't that clean, too. Again, I didn't stay overnight in a room, but based on what I experienced, why would you want to try, when there are many other nicer, comparably priced places to stay in Philadelphia?

Give me a break II

overpriced rooms with little service. hotel tries to capitalize on its business location with fluffed ads and doesn't live up to promises.

last choice for us next time.

Not a Four Star Hotel!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Check-in and check-out were fast and effecient. The rooms were average and had no view. A short cab ride to downtown was inexpensive. Room service was overpriced. A $12 breakfast with service charges, etc. was $24. I checked the math. Service was fair.
